I would just like to confirm that, as a long-saty visitor from the U.S. (land of science and civilisation, you redneck assholes!) this town of yours, "Caerphilly" reeks like goats'cheese. In fact, like the cheese of those self-same goats that I was reliably informed by my Bristol buddies that you Welsh inbreds goes jerking off in your valleys each goddamn night!

Where are the ladies in the godforsaken one horse town, where are the breedable babes? Apart from one black hottie I met at The Forge in Machen, near to Trethomass lately, but other than that African-born queen: nothing. Sweet nada. Zilcho!

Words off advice from beyond he geo-cartographic grave: branch out sometime and increase the power of thine genepool, you narrow minded hicks!

Also, instead of providing a balcony for " the dictators " why not consider some kind of undercover seating for the diehard fans.

I had my 1st RUGBY Training session Tuesday night for 2.5 yrs with wait for it..........Benetton Treviso......for the over 35's...looks like I've finally peaked.

Looking for up-date, what's the deal at Bedwas now, who's coaching and Capt, any goss etc?
What Rhys and Digger up to?

It would be great to catch up with anyone from BRFC.....

    Fans Of Bedwas

There is a rumour stirring in the east, a new Club Coach…..

Does anyone know any more than this.???

It was told this Sunday that the BIG MAN Rawlings, was in deep conversation with Hywel Davies and Mike Flowers (Over several beers) to bring back that which blossomed and took the club to it’s current heights….

Can this be true… After Digger’s big retirement can he put his hard earned rugby knowledge to the test as the new Head Forwards Coach..???

The fans need to know !!

Cheasty the Athletic now have 3 solid prop forwards.... Please stay in OZ !!

Well done the Athletic for their current unbeaten run of 5 weeks. They are the top drinking team in the valleys.

The athletic are going for the double this year…. A victory over St Julian’s last week ensured Bedwas would be represented in the Newport & District Cup final at Rodney Parade. I've finally got over the England game and put a little time into the site. I'm talking about the 50 pointer at Twickenham last year, BTW, not this year's ressurection of Offside-Humphreys.

Now I'm a fancy toff, like, with broadband and that, but without much in the way of software for doing all this web stuff. So the new version is useing some image files. They're only 100KB, but if that's a problem for people on dial-up, let me know and I'll try to do something about it.

Also if something looks crap on your browser, let me know and I'll do a bit of tweaking. (I've only tried it in Safari so far).

Just thought I’d see what was the general feeling was about the game last weekend. The front 5 were no existent and the only forward who deserves a mention is Martin Williams. How I feel for him. He plays his club rugby with a poor set of forwards and the he plays an international game with an even worse set. The backs didn't do much but with no platform to play off it’s understandable.

I'd just like to say that the second team boys are doing the club proud of late, not only on the field but in the club afterwards. the boys are always on the lash creating a decent atmosphere which has been lacking in bedwas of late. There are some fierce drinkers in the squad with the likes of Rhys Nicholas, Steady Eddie and Poochy and the likes of Flinky, Pablo and Podge bringing up the rear but ever present. Its good to see boys, long may it continue!!

What a pile of shit, we should never scrap the seconds as they are the back bone of the club when all the money has run out and all the money grabbers are gone who are they going to rely on then all the local boys offcourse. How do you think all the other youth players from years ago have managed they have trained hard and stuck with it, if the players of today are as good as they say they are they should get involved not make excuses that they are not getting looked after. If the Youth players are to scared of getting hurt and too imature to try and get noticed i personally dont want to see them at the club, we want men not boys!.

Being a former Bedaws Youth Player i know that the players who have gone elsewhere will be coming back, they are just gaining experience at higher level at the Academy down at Caerphilly. The level of rugby is imense and i know that when these quality players do come back they will be better players and without a doubt challenging for first team spots maybe not regular but great hope for the future. The reason they have left though is due to the lack of oportunity at Bedwas RFC. Why o why doesn't Bedwas scrap the seconds and get a 21's side?????? Dont get me wrong Seconds rugby has a great tradition but if Bedwas want to acheive the ultimate they have to move on and start doing things the likes of Cardiff and Llanelli do........not wasting money because they already do that but breading youngsters all the way to senior level.

In response to a previous message, I have also been wondering where a number of last seasons youth playres have gone? I understand that some where held in high regard by coaches and players alike? Does anyone know if they are being monitored by the club for the future? If some were as talented as they were thought to be, why are they allowed to pursue their careers else where?! I understand that there have been issues concerning their behaviour but surely talented players should not be allowed to slip through the clubs fingers!

  • Short term Bedwas -- Bedwas fan, 01:26:09 10/19/02 Sat
In Bedwas on Staurday night listening to people telling me how good Bedwas are. The question is who are Bedwas? A group of bought-in individuals who contribute nothing to the club bar strip it of all its financial gains. Somebody said its great for the likes of Tilley, Salters and Flinky they have made it! Surely a club like Bedwas should be about 12-15 local boys on the field(with a little support from outside). Rawlins is a third time chairman, the only reason he is still in charge is the lack of serios contenders. When the WRU cut the funding to £9,000 how many "Bedwas" players will be left?

WHAT HAS BEEN THAT WHITE, GREEN AND BLACK BLUR FOR THE 2nds TEAM OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS?, THIS SATURDAY I HEARD CHANTS OF "SARGY, GO ON YOU STILL GOT IT!". IS THIS THE SAME SARGY THAT USED TO BE BEDWAS`S FASTEST EVER WINGER? I REMEMBER HIM PLAYING FOR YOUTH AND BOY DID HE HAVE SOME SPEED! HE USED TO HAVE TWO TO THREE TRIES A GAME. BUT OVER THE THE TWO PREVIOUS GAMES HE HASNT HAD MUCH BALL, BUT THIS DID NOT STOP HIM `HUNTING` FOR THE ODD SHAPED BALL. OBVIOUSLY TIME AND LIFE HAS SLOWED HIM DOWN A YARD OR TWO, AND WHEN HE GIVE IT UP FOR A FEW SEASONS IT WAS A GREAT LOSS TO THE GAME OF RUGBY. BUT I KNOW IF HE CARRIES ON TRAINING AND PLAYING HARD THE 1st TEAM WILL BE CRYING FOR HIS SKILLS FOR THE 1st DIVISION SOONER RATHER THAN LATER!
ALL I HAVE LEFT TO SAY IS KEEP IT UP SARGE WE MISSED YOU AND YOUR TALENTS!

He even attempted one of those windmill things on the floor but his huge head got in the way and he took out half of the checkmate faithful. Melon boy - sort it out!!! attempting to dance with your top off, blowing a whistle and waving an illuminous stick does nothing for your reputation.

I hope this is'nt true about the retirement of Huw Davies, as the player has so much talent and is only just beginning his rugby career which i had hoped would be a long and lustuest one with Bedwas RFC. I have spoken to Huw on a numerous occasions were he has always been training hard up the Gym, were some other players lack putting their time and effort, no names mentioned!. Please can you clarify if this is true or just a sick wind up, following his recent injury against Uwic, if this is a wind up hope you get better soon Huw and get back on the pitch putting in those big tackles we love to see you make. Having being a long time Supporter of Bedwas RFC, i am worried at the sudden departure of all the youth players. Yes Bedwas has a very strong team at the moment and to be honest with all due respect to the youth players they won't be prominent figures in the team! But they are why Bedwas has a great tradition of 'growing it's own' and having seen some of them play i have noticed that some of them have great potential and natural talent as did some of the first team players not too many saesons ago...... remeber? And i have every faith that the coaching staff need to hold on to players like these if Bedwas have aspirations of making it in to the top flight, because money doesn't grow on trees, especially in Division 1! But sadly something as happened behind closed doors to make them leave and me along with others would like to know what it is......... any insight?

  • Message for Mr Lewis -- Me, 22:03:56 08/19/02 Mon
    Matthew,

As you should know with your experience "Flower" were very poor. And to judge who should start at 8 after one game, MMMmmmm..... I feel Bedwas should have arranged a more competitive fixture so they can find out, which of the young players are up to division 1 rugby.

Now saying you cannot get teams to play is rubbish, the so called management at the club should have been planning in advance for pre-season fixtures. E.g. Lydney last season was an excellent fixture and you have to ask yourself was a return fixture ever asked for at the time! Well going by Flower and UWIC as fixtures, NO. UWIC will be better as a fitness exercise, but the young forwards need a competitive pack to play against. Bedwas have played UWIC in the past and have always had a relative easy time.

Another fixture issue, last Saturday (17th Aug 2002) Bedwas pulled out of a fixture with Beddau, which would have been an excellent fixture and would have offered a hard physical edge to boot. But Bedwas pulled out as only Flinky was available from the recognised locks (Never mind the 2 others they played against flower!) I ask you, it was a pre-season warm-up match, winning was not the only issue, getting match fitness under players belts was the positive here!

Remember Aberavon away is the first fixture and I feel the lack of competitive opponents will hinder, what will already be an uphill battle. Still I wish the ‘Bed’ all the best as ever and will show my support at the game.

One thing…. Aberavon, going by last years season are poor starters(lost 4 from 5 if my mind serves me correct), so it may well be an early Xmas Prezzy !!!

  • Back row options??????????????????????????? -- No name, 01:54:38 07/15/02 Mon
As an avid Bedwas supporter and former open-side flanker I am interested in the new developments relating to the back-row of the team. This web-side and rumour has suggested that Hywel Davies is to leave the club. Is this true??? Hywel is a valuable member of the squad and I find it difficult to believe that Hywel would even think of leaving, especially considering the level of rugby the club has allowed him to play! Hywels younger brother has the potential to be a reasonable player but far too often lacks the work-rate required at this level and tends to go "missing" during games. Mattravers, on the back of a very good season, has cemented the number eight position and I am enthusiastic of his performances next season!!!! Worse than the retirement of Darren Hawthorne is the news that Mathew Lewis has signed for Cross-keys!!!! Our best and most consistent player. A massive loss for bedwas. Chris Brown has been acquired but as Bedwas have witnessed money to purchase those type of players isn't the answer!!! Can anyone shed any light on Owen Ankers???? A player i enjoyed watching last season when in the starting line up. A player who possesses a mix of the other back rowers attributes and gives everything for Bedwas. Im told he's playing in New Zealand. If this is the case and his improvement continues then I'd say an exciting blend for Bedwas. Good luck Bedwas next season!!!!!!!!!

  • The All New "Bed"... Opps, sorry shambles !!! -- No name, 23:26:50 07/01/02 Mon
Yes it is sad to see the likes of Hywel and Huw Daives, along with Ian Phillips, Lee Tomlings and Richard Hughes leaving for pastures new... I am an avid at the club and have been for some time. And I place the demise, of a once thriving club, solely down to the management of the club. This does not reflect on the coaching at the club, even thought coaching did not get the club to it’s current league position. (Bought players did)

The club is run by what can no more be described as ‘A Bunch Of Muppets’…. Club players have reduced tragically year after year for the last 3 years, as money has been “Thrown About” unnecessarily. In fact, on good advise I have been informed that players under contract, have been offered higher monthly rates at a later date for no reason at all…. Is this the way to run a business…? Remember what I said earlier “Muppets”.

Now people wonder what has happened to the likes of players like Leighton Morris, Dai Goulding, Lee Miles, James Roadway, Rob Smith, Colin Hughes, Ceri Rees, Richard Thomas, Richard Jones the list goes on and on…. The simple answer is the club itself; they have turned an always-busy club into a “Caer Model”. That is a Caerphilly model where you are left with no players in the clubhouse, one hour after the final whistle. It is a sad position for a small village club to find itself in, sorry the Davies brothers, Moose, Billy, Rhys, Young Richard Hughes and a few others keep the bar going, but how many of them are still playing.?

The question I must ask is “Has the club gained from it’s current league standing.?” The answer is a big NO! Loss of players, No crowd increase, Loss of club atmosphere (When was the last time there was a decent club/player sing along… Answer when G.Rees was last in full playing action) and most of all a RED balance with the bank manager.

With a bit of luck the WRU will reduce the money given to D1 clubs, and the club of old will return, players and atmosphere included. Remember “The Dream”.

I played with many quality players, people such as Geoff Davies, Jeff Williams, Graham Douglas, Alan Davies, Tony Welch and David Cousins. Although I was a very physical type of player these friends taught me the art of scoring tries without physical contact. Is it not the easiest try the simplest try, unfortunately today our youngsters have been brought up to believe that physical contact is superior to individual skills. As Geoff Davies once said, "I can't kick seventy yards but I can run it". Is this attitude missing out of rugby football today.

I have to admit that we are not a totally innocent team and us, as players dont expect anyone to think that. But it would be nice to be shown a little respect and a bit more interest by the commitee! Realising the fact that we have had, apart from the trouble, a very successful year!! We never intentionally look for trouble, we give as good as we get and always think rugby first! And as for the appalling standard of refereeing in the youth game. The amount of controversial desicions which occur during a match its about time people started realising that that is where most of the trouble we get into stems from!!! These dogdy desicions will bring obvious conflict between the two teams resulting in red and yellow cards giving Bedwas youth their unfair reputation. See you next year!!

in my opinion the youth team have been unfairly treated throughout the current season! The club had no complaints when a number of youth team players contributed to the cup final win for the athletic. In fact, most of the points in the final, and in the games leading up to the final, were scored by youth team players!i am not singling out anyone in the youth as i am not that naieve, i just feel that they should be treated with a little more respect as everyone knows there are highly talented players in the team. It is clear that certain members of the club do not give them a fair chance for whatever reason. They know they are not totally innocent for the trouble caused during the season both on and off the field. The point that i would like to make is that it takes TWO TO TANGO!!!!!

Pooch is the best thing since microwave chips. I have seen
him play on the field and off the field and trust me he is
    like master craftsman.
I amoung many other rugby supporters, feel that he should be
the next captain wihtout a doubt, and all know that the only reason that No8 from pontypool didnt play, was because
    the poochmeister was playing.
    Keep up the good work!!!

This forum seems to be only used for slanging matches and personal abuse to players. I've been a member of Machen RFC for 6 years and I'll stick with them til I die and we have sat back and watched a good club fall to pieces. There is no respect for the club from outsiders and It seems as if the website is going the same way. I wish you all the best for next season, not only to stay up in division 1 by to stay afloat.

What is happening at the club?
we've been checking the results and can see that two teams that we beat earlier in the season have come to our own patch and turned us over!
I know that the form has dropped a little but keep your heads up as we have done well up until now!
Who are the new additions to the squad?
lets give pooler a good go and look forward to next season.
get pooch on the sidelines, his melon head is just too big!!!

i think that at the end of the day our players play for the money and not for the want to be in that jersey.England players are on less money than welsh players and they play awesomely, whay can't we?we have the players,it's all this squabbling between the greedy and arrogant gang of six.It shows you how the players did'nt care when they wanted to go on strike!it's darn right embarrising to us,england are laughing in our faces coz all we do is squabble.A compromise must be reached!!!

  • DAY OF ACTION Vs WRU - Saturday 6th April -- Depressed fan, 14:24:48 03/27/02 Wed
Ruck the WRU Fans' Day of Action - Saturday 6th April 2002

Petition and protests turn up the heat

We are all too well aware how Welsh Rugby has been allowed to plummet for more than 20 years from our position as one of the world's premier exponents of the sport to a one where we can no longer compete with teams who once feared us, and where extinction is iminent.

We, the fans, the thousands who have continued to support Welsh Rugby both in body and financially during this period of wretched decline, have had enough.

Gwlad, along with other supporters bodies, is organising a day of action on Saturday 6th April, the day of our final match in the Six Nations Championship.

Part of this day of action will involve a gathering outside the offices of the Welsh Rugby Union to air our grievances, culminating in the delivery of a fans' petition calling for the General Committee to resign after arranging to set up a professional executive board to undertake the day to day running of Welsh Rugby. This was one of the key recommendations made by the working party investigation they themselves commissioned and are now preparing to consign to the waste basket.

For more info & to sign the online petition, please go here:-

Hopefully I'l have time this weekend to get everything up to date ... if I can get over Saturday's Twickenham experience.

  • youth team -- member of youth team, 11:16:49 02/12/02 Tue
It is clear that the current bedwas youth team have a considerable amount of talented players. Many members of this team are now in their last year of youth and will be available to play senior rugby next season. There is some speculation that an U21 team will be set up next season. Surely this would be a good idea as many players would certainly stay at the club rather than finding other U21 teams to play for. Such players could have a dramatic impact on the future of this club, and if not looked after, could find somewhere else to go. Any opinions? cheers.

It was 27-0 actually, And I thought there should be alot of credit sent out to the players as they were up against it from the start, Caerphilly had a very strong team out, And Bedwas were also playing aginst the wind and up the slope which everyone knows there is, im not making excuses but if we have played the second half i think we would have done a little better pining them back into the corners. I do agree though it should never had been played, but nevermind better luck next time.

I don't think Flinky is as good a player as Spuddy is. The last few games that I've seen Flinky hes been playing in either the outside half or centre position - he certainly doesn't seem to think hes a second row!

Get back to basics and hit those weights if you want to realise the potential!!

Having followed all your comments over the last few weeks, I am appalled at the level of criticism within your club. I will use Huw Davies as my example, as I am his Sunday School teacher and Boy Scout Leader, and have been for many, many years, since he was a little boy. I have watched him play with admiration and joy. His talent is true and he should be in a club like Cardiff. His appetite for the game is like nothing I´ve seen in Welsh rugby. Bring it on Huw, you are ace. See you on Sunday.

With all honesty Rhys - you have let yourself go over the past year or so and its about time you sorted your increasingly large problem out. Your ability speaks for itself and a return to first team rugby would only be possible if you took training seriously. Show some determination to lose the weight because your not the great player you think you are with all that s**t hanging around your waist.

    come on Rhys!!!!

  • Chris Barnes -- Graham Henry, 14:17:32 10/31/01 Wed
This is the first time i have had chance to look at the Bedwas Website and must say how pleased i am to see some of the responses even though some of them are a bit harsh or rude towards each other, but like Hywel has said it seems like just a bit of friendly banter between friends. I too would like to know where that open side flanker Chris Barnes is these days as i know he had a U18 Cap for Wales and would be a great back up for your team if Matthew Lewis was to become unavailable for some reason and instead of looking to the team up the road for support (Caerphilly) for an out and out open side. Glad to see it anyway boys and remember your the 10th best in Wales at the moment so keep up the hard work. I'll be Watching!!!!! Mr G Henry.
