Matthew,

As you should know with your experience "Flower" were very poor. And to judge who should start at 8 after one game, MMMmmmm..... I feel Bedwas should have arranged a more competitive fixture so they can find out, which of the young players are up to division 1 rugby.

Now saying you cannot get teams to play is rubbish, the so called management at the club should have been planning in advance for pre-season fixtures. E.g. Lydney last season was an excellent fixture and you have to ask yourself was a return fixture ever asked for at the time! Well going by Flower and UWIC as fixtures, NO. UWIC will be better as a fitness exercise, but the young forwards need a competitive pack to play against. Bedwas have played UWIC in the past and have always had a relative easy time.

Another fixture issue, last Saturday (17th Aug 2002) Bedwas pulled out of a fixture with Beddau, which would have been an excellent fixture and would have offered a hard physical edge to boot. But Bedwas pulled out as only Flinky was available from the recognised locks (Never mind the 2 others they played against flower!) I ask you, it was a pre-season warm-up match, winning was not the only issue, getting match fitness under players belts was the positive here!

Remember Aberavon away is the first fixture and I feel the lack of competitive opponents will hinder, what will already be an uphill battle. Still I wish the ‘Bed’ all the best as ever and will show my support at the game.

One thing…. Aberavon, going by last years season are poor starters(lost 4 from 5 if my mind serves me correct), so it may well be an early Xmas Prezzy !!!
