The Mountains

The first herd can be found in the northern territory � where they have found home high up in the mountain tops. Although it can become very cold in wintertime they find salvation from the hospitable climate in caves; where they will find shelter and safety in the worst of weather. They are also safe from all humans, as none will venture so high up (no capture attempts may be made on any horse in this territory).
However, this is one of the most dangerous territory�s to live in � the ground is rocky and all too easy to fall, leaving a costly injury from which not many can recover from. And storms are lethal to those who do not reach shelter in time. Further, food can become scarce at certain times of the year � forcing the residents to move away temporarily or face starvation.
Only the toughest can survive in this bleak land.

She did not know whether the others would follow her, hopeful that they would but if they didn't then she could not stop.
She had seen the humans and went to the other side of the territory, then begins to climb up the rough mountain side. Although the ground is loose she was used to hardy conditions, and would not be stopped or detained.
She knows the humans would not dare venture up these mountains, and so it will be safe to rest here awhile until the roundup is over.

At the foot of the mountain four men have circled on their rides - lasoo in hands and hoping to catch wild horses.
But they look uncertainly at this less then welcoming place, one begins to mvoe his stallion up - but the ground is loose and the horse stumbles, forcing the man to turn back around.
"How can we get up here?" they ask each other, but finding no answer they angrily turn back around and leave from this place.

(Horses here are safe as the men will not venture up the mountains)

Cavu trots off to the meadow, being careful of her footing as she goes -- Karma, 12:35:15 09/06/01 Thu
Karma seems unwilling to leave the safety of the cave, her large frightened eyes looking to the cave mouth, fearing the storm may begin again and the dangers of outside.
She looks to Risk, her eyes momentarily looking into his before being quickly drawn away.
Knowing he wills her to move, she obediantly moves to the cave entrance, though still trembles uncontrollabely.
She takes a step outside, looking around quickly.
Her ears are pinned back, and she lunges out of the cave, and is quickly galloping as fast as her legs will take her down the mountain - she's sure footed and does not loose her balance.
Soon she arrives at the meadow

She gives a frightened squeal when the rain begins to pick up, and races after Risk and Cavu, following them into the caves. Her whole body shakes and she snorts constantly - the whites of her eyes show.
Cavu looks to the entrance of the cave, watching everything that is happening. She looks to Risk, and nickers, then moves over to her friend, and nuzzles her, trying to calm her down.

She grows more frightened with each moment, her body rattles violently from her frightened shaking. When she hears the thunder she squeals, pressing herself right up against the back wall - looking from Cavu ro Risk and back again. Her ears flatten and the whites of her eyes show, she is in a miserable state due to the storm, and none can calm her nerves, she hopes urgently that soon the storm will be finished - yet it seems to only be getting worse (NT) -- Karma, 13:08:53 09/05/01 Wed

He nickers, trying to comfort Cavu and Karma. He nuzzles Cavu, and walks over to the mouth of the cave, the mountain was wrecked. He galnces about, finding practically no food at least not enough to last them for a few days, worried, he nickers to Cavu, telling her to go to the meadow. Trotting over to Karma, he nudges her, trying to get her moving towards the meadows,too. (NT) -- Risk, 11:18:46 09/06/01 Thu

Cavu has grown tired from the day, she circles round slowly, then lays down - soon falling asleep. Karma, still frightened stays standing - she will stay up and awake until the storm has passed (NT) -- Cavu and Karma, 13:17:23 09/05/01 Wed

He nieghs, tossing his head up, calling to Cavu and Karma, warning them of a possible approaching storm. He whinnies to them, this time, telling them to head for shelter in case the storm was coming.

Karma is in an instant obediantly by his side, looking up at the dark sky nervously. Cavu looks over from where she stands, than glances up. She seems unwilling to join the others, but reluctantly begins to walk over to them (NT) -- Karma and Cavu, 11:32:37 09/04/01 Tue

Risk stamps the ground catching Cavu's attention. He trots over to her and nuzzles her. He whinnies, telling her he has claimed her as the lead mare.

The two mares trot in.
Karma looks round nervously, staying close beside Cavu - who was looking with interest at the land.
Seeing the stallion who had claimed them Cavu trots boldly over, but Karma stays behind - she had a nervous state, unwilling to approach, though not liking to be too far from her companion, she circles round and gives a quick stamp of her foot, trying to attract Cavu's attention and bring her back over.
Cavu though pays no attention to her friend. She was quite an opposite character - where Karma's will and spirit were tame and easily broken, only finding comfort in the company of others; Cavu was wild and a free spirit - she would be happy to remain alone, exploring dangerous terrains, and was often quick to a fight if she felt the need to defend herself.
Cavu looks to Risk, and nickers to him - but her attention was short, and soon she is galloping away to explore her new home, leaving Karma snorting uneasily further off.
