Subject: Donovan

Donovan ("Mellow Yellow") appeared at the Swing on a late Sunday afternoon in September or October 1967. It was the most unusual day and time (like starting at 4 p.m.?) for a concert but there were still lots of us there. I don't know if the show got squeezed into his schedule of other Southern California shows or if the time was really intentional. I remember that when the show started a DJ came out and announced that the opening band would not be performing at Donovan's request. He said it was because Donovan felt the opening band would be too loud and would disrupt the feelings of peace and love that Donovan wanted at his concerts. (Or maybe the scheduled opening band failed to show up and it was a clever cover-up?)
