citizens so they can decide" about the disposition of
the airport...

My response: One of the main reasons I ran for council was because I thought it was important for citizens to be better educated and involved in the major decisions facing the city. I believe in the process of citizen participation. So from the very beginning, I thought that before the city intervened in the airport (by either allowing it to expand, spending taxpayer money to buy it, or risking a lawsuit by condemning it) we should hold public hearings to give the citizens a chance to understand all the issues and provide their input. During the election and into the summer I was still hearing from citizens who weren't ready to throw in the towel in the airport. They were undecided about the fate of the jetport and wanted more information on any potential revenues to the city. I'm not talking about Harold Baccus or John Andrews, I'm talking about average citizens from all over town.

So, my approach has always been that the citizens should have an opportunity to hear the facts as we know them and be allowed to voice their opinions on the airport.

You wrote: She knew about the appraisal long ago (June I think)and therefore, the only proper decision would be to go
with another use besides an airport.

The 'appraisal' you reference here was an executive overview handed to us in executive session. The overview (now available as a matter of public record) referenced a number of previous studies that actually indicated that the airport would be a viable and economic asset to the city. In the few moments I had to peek at the overview, it appeared that there were contradictory findings between the overview and the previous studies. This led me to believe there was still a lot of research I would need to do before jumping to the conclusion that the only reasonable option for the airport was to close it down.

I can not ignore my fudiciary responsibility to the city and to the citizens. Many of you have gone to great lengths to point out how angry you were that I would even RISK taxpayer money with my Hooters vote. I'm sure you can understand that the money at risk on the airport is just as significant.

You wrote about Hooters: ...enough to get out and picket in front of the news...

My response: I DID NOT picket in front of Hooters. If you are interested in the facts about my interview with Mr. Stohler of Fox 4 News, you could actually contact him or anyone else there that day. In my interview with him, I explained to him that I had heard from citizens on BOTH sides of the issue...from citizens who were opposed to Hooters because of the safety and image issues AND from citizens who were happy to see Hooters come to Frisco and just thought the opponents should lighten up.

The news chose to use only those comments that reflected the opposition's views. If you LISTEN to the interview, you will clearly hear me state that 'the citizens who are opposed to Hooters are concerned with...' I NEVER expressed my personal opinion about whether Hooters should or shouldn't come to Frisco.

You wrote: Maybe these ladies will show up at city council meetings and speak to issues that she might ask them to speak on. Do they feel a certain obligation to her now that she stuck her neck out for them? I would view this, if it is in fact the case, as very cunning and manipulative on Tracie's part.

My response: Many of these ladies are just as passionate about other issues important to Frisco...parks, open space, air quality, schools, high density housing, quality development, unity, road safety and the airport. Because we are moms who plan on raising our children in this community for the next couple decades, we have many common dreams for Frisco. Will they come to council meetings in the future to speak on other issues? Absolutely. I hope you all do! That's been my goal all along.

If making average citizens feel like they are truly being heard and have a voice on the council is being cunning and manipulative, then I'm guilty as charged.

Finally, I have a request. If you want me to be open and honest with my answers, I would ask that you too be open and honest. Therefore, after today I will not answer any more questions on message boards posted by anonymous posters. If you do not want to use your name on an MB but you have a question for me, you can e-mail me at tracie@thereveals.com. I would be happy to get back with you as quickly as I can.

I can appreciate people who are seeking information but wish to remain private. I am happy to keep your questions confidential.

Tracie
