The mill was previously called the Haviland-Davison Grist Mill after Joseph Haviland, who built it on Ocean Avenue in 1688, and Alexander Davison, who bought it in 1818. In 1962, the Village acquired it, moved it to Memorial Park, and restored it, giving it its present name when it opened to the public in 1965. Damaged by arson in 1990, the mill has been completely restored.
