Subject: `` quandary

Today was one of the rare days in winter where it wasn't raining or snowing. The sun was out and it was pleasantly warm. A serene quietness had settled over the Tundra, nothing could be heard except for the distant occcasional cry of a fish eagle. Very little was stirring in this vast open land of ice and snow.

You could tell Flash was bored. He'd been following that darn mouse for over an hour. Up until today he hadn't even known there were any mice here. It was a big one, too. Big for a mouse, anyway. Flash peered around the tree, large black ears pricked and piercing yellow eyes narrowing on the mouse. The mouse seemed to know he was there, but not paying much heed- it simply sat on its little hindlegs and groomed its whiskers with an air of superiority. Flash snuck behind the tree again and glanced up into its branches, as if waiting for an answer or revelation of some kind.

Right. Let's do this. Flash lowered himself flat onto his stomach, and peeped around the tree trunk again. The mouse was still there, but was now looking at something far off in the opposite direction and seemed to have forgotten him. Great. Painstakingly slowly Flash crawled forward, paw by paw, so quietly that not even the sound of his paws crunching through the snow could be heard. The thin black and tan male paused about a meter away from the rodent, and pulled back slightly. His muscles tensed, and he pounced, slender but powerful hindlegs thrusting themselves against the snow and propelling him forward. The mouse bolted and Flash was after him. He sped after the rodent, legs kicking up a flurry of snow everytime he made a sharp turn. The wolfdog was gaining very fast, and he pounced again with what he could've sworn was deadly accuracy. Flash landed nose first with a mouthful of snow, and from the corner of his eye saw a small blur of grey making another hysterical bolt for safety. Curses. He breathed out and stayed where he was, sprawled out over the ground with his nose still buried in the snow.
