As a long-term patient in a hospital here in San Francisco, CA. A large majority of my caretakers are of Filipino ancestry. As a Chinese-American, I'm quite proud to proclaim my race as Chinese. I find it quite strange that many Filipinos proclaim themselves as Filipinos, but proudly emphasize that some of their descendants are of Chinese or Spanish descent. Are they not proud of their heritage? Regardless of your racial mixture, why aren't many Filipinos proud to claim their heritage? Could it be low self-esteem in regards to a national identity?
