i'm a Filipino and i'm proud to be one. the theory that we are the same ancestry as the aboriginals is still just a theory not a fact. but u're right we are not asians in the sense of mainland asians. people say that they have spanish or chinese blood not only because they are ashamed to be filipinos, although i'm aware that this happens to filos who grew up overseas. that really annoys me. they say that they have spanish and chinese ancestry because it is true. the Philippines have been trading and interacting with the Chinese people for decades before the Spaniards came. the spaniards came and lived in the philippines for almost 400 years. during all of this time, who can honestly say that there wasn't any racial mixing? besides the philippines being a series of islands in itself has three different groups of ethnicity. aside from this, as much as our relationship with spain was full of suffering and abuse we couldn't deny the fact that most of their cultural traditions were passed onto us. we incllude our spanish and chinese heritage because thats part of us. the Philippines is a very different country in the sense that it is both asian and western and it is a place where these cultures interact/combined and are appreciated.
