Maybe it is the working culture within the athletic department?

If the leadership within the department does not support staff efforts, show trust and appreciation for subordinates work, provide the tools to do the work, reasonably compensate for their work..., then it should not be suprising that production and quality of work will be reduced.

And as an aside, micro managing shows the exact opposite of showing trust in your subordinates. Leadership within the department should provide vision for their work force. A leader should let their employees know what they envision the department doing..., its goals/objectives... and even what that employees contribution represents to the organization. And let those employees invest their energy in their work.

Employees should be helf accountable for their work too.

I am not saying that the above occuring... it's just speculation.
