Okay, after a bit of head-scratching, I got the Running Thunder forum to use threads. Unfortunately, you can't tell until a new thread or reply gets posted, cause the existing threads got grandfathered in as flat threads. You can set your user profile to choose between flat and threaded views, and there's a button near the top of the page that switches between the two. Not too shabby!
