I don't know squat about what happened... but if it was freshman out with juniors drinking (at a party, or at the bars, or in someones home)..., it matters squat to me. Well, unless the underage players were in a bar... that's a no no!

Players should properly exercise their own judgement..., and not participate in events that would put the university under scrutiny (or embarass alumni - har har). But...

I participated in sports in college - ran track. But not at Poly. It was not uncommon that underage athletes mingled with seniors or juniors on the weekends or whatnot. And alcohol was around. I remember older teammates were the ones to do the purchasing for group gatherings of 6-12 of us at someones apartment. No big deal! The only concerns were to not drive or binge drink or consume if there was practice or a meet the following day!!! No one had to be reminded of that!

The coaches knew this occurred..., and knew they couldn't stop it either..., they also trusted the athletes to use thier own judgement...

With that said I feel I can say I have been there. And I can also say I can hardly imagine something worse than what I expereinced. For the players to have been suspended at where I was... they would have had to have been unavailable for practice or play..., was in an establishment drinking while underage, drinking in public, drinking on campus, had alcohol in their possession on campus and underage... or what not.
