Subject: Rigoletto

Rigoletto, is one of my least favorite operas so far. Although, the storyline is in a way true to life when u think about it. What I mean by this is that in life the kind of thing the Duke does happens all the time, with the exception of the abductions. A powerful man sweetalks an innocent woman, makes her fake promises, toys with her emotions and then leaves her after he gets what he wants. Now to all guys reading this I'm not bashing your gender because there are also some woman who do this type of thing to. I just used guys as an example because the Duke is a man. Another thing that also made Rigoletto kind of true to life is revenge. The courtiers seek revenge on Rigoletto, so they abduct who they think at the time is his lover for the Duke. Only to find out later that it was his daughter. Then after the Duke rapes Rigoletto's daughter, Rigoletto seeks revenge on the Duke. It is like a neverending web of revenge which only backfires on Rigoletto in the end. Rigoletto hires a man to kill the Duke but instead the man winds up killing Rigoletto's daughter.
