I think that the reason I like La Boheme, is one of the reasons that Mariel doesn't. Recognizing traits of Carmen in Musetta, and traits of Micaela in Mimi almost makes this opera, one that I understand. Being we have already become accustomed to some of these character traits, it helps you to better comprehend where these two characters are coming from. It is almost like a secretive insight into their lives!
