Naaaah, I totally agree with you.

The question is, how old is Dawn actually? We knew she was fourteen before Buffy's death but have they mentioned her age since? Since the "power" isn't granted 'til the fifteenth birthday, this may definitely be a twist that they've been waiting to throw our way.

Further examples of Dawn's predisposition towards Slayerness:

"Listening to Fear": Dawn thinks fast enough to rescue her mother from that moondude and beats the hell out of him with a ... if memory serves, coat rack.

"Fool For Love": Asking to go on patrols. This shows that she has the *interest* to do it.

"Forever": Her determinedness and agility in retrieving that demon egg. Sure, Spike's a supernatural beastie and all, but Dawn is a human (well, for all intents and purposes) girl. She handled herself pretty well.

"The Gift": That line of Buffy's that says something to the effect of "Dawn is me".

Also, interesting though- if Dawn's interest in witchcraft continues (and there will come a point where Buffy wouldn't be able to stop her), would that make Dawn the first Slayer/Witch combo? Sounds pretty badass, if you ask me :-)

Anyway, this also adds some big time drama to Buffy (as if it needs more :-) . Buffy, who now had to step into the maternal role, would have to deal with the idea that her sister... the girl she was willing to give up *everything* for, is doomed to die at a young age. She has to go through the same worries her mother did, knowing that each time she sees her it may be the last. You *can't* protect a Slayer. They could *really* do some funky stuff with this.
