None of the Kids had names. They also did not have parents, or families, or an education that would in any way mirror that owned by most people their age. What they did have was the universal leveler that was the collapse of the United States, and the subsequent death of 98% of the pure-human population.

Her eyes were deep enough to suffocate in. The gaunt Dragonkiller balanced precariously on the windowsill of her bombed-out, burned-out apartment to gouge patterns in the smoke dark glass teeth that hadn't been knocked out of their frame when the original pristine window blew.

Barn owl eyes inspected the mostly lifeless street below. Everyone had their own problems. Sleek did. Red did. But of the few remaining, each had a job to do, and Sleek would keep watch, knees cradled against her flat pre-teen chest until Red sent out the call for a gather.
