Subject: + one frontline big defender . Makes one look towards future needs
In reply to: Nips Devine 's message, "It's a fair effort from Fly to keep this side ticking over with effectively just 2 front line mids" on 06:49 17/06/24 Mon

Ruck
It’s an injury vulnerable position ( eg last yr both C’ s were missing and , for a period we made do with a competitive Frammers plus a mix of AJ, and Dan McStay ….neither of whom are rucks . Yesterday Camo was supported by a mix of Frammers and Fred . Neither are front line rucks and Fred looked clueless in the role
The future from the list ?
Coxy is getting on and needs to establish fitness after the injury. It needs to be remembered that in Qtr 4 of ‘23 GF he dominated hit outs so don’t rule anything out
Smit ….looks good for a season or two down the track ( it’s been suggested that he might evolve into a player who helps alter how we play)
Eyre …maybe. Very athletic young bloke.but lean
We might need to draft a “ Leroy” type

Key Forward
Checkers has done a fab job for so long but he is small for the role
Fred …hopefully might be the answer . These two games gave hints of strengths and weaknesses . He presents and there are missed opportunities too . Spectacular brilliance like that mark and just totally misjudging the incoming ball or falling over at crucial times . Goals from the boundary on non preferred side or near misses from dead in front. We must persist .
Reef …whatever he might be , it’s not a Key forward . Not big or physically competitive enough. His uncompetitive speed in that last Qtr one on one chase was surprising and disappointing
Dan McStay ….cant wait for him to come back . Built like Superman and a real goer
Young promising tall forwards ? None listed.
We couldn’t snare Hutchinson . Farrant at VFL ?
Yesterday approx 15 of our 18 goals came from small forwards or on ballers / flankers

KP defenders
Moore has been fabulous and is ably supported by Howe who is a wonderful play reader. Dean is on the Rise . Questions about strength and legspeed pop up. His long standing foot injury may have had an impact there .
What listed KPD is putting on pressure for a chance ?
Doubtless Kelly and Keane were drafted a few years back with potential to fill these roles in mind . Begg has been needed in the ruck at VFL and is injured anyway and sadly Murphy was forced to retire .
Much is left to shorter , lighter players . Seeing ( last year) Bruz on Buddy and this year seeing him matched on MacKay , makes the point . There is a need to secure another Darcy Moore or taller Jeremy Howe …and these blokes don’t grown on trees
