Subject: The questions on Darcy Moore

Darcy Moore has AFL industry wide respect for his captaincy, statesman like speeches, fairness, and athleticism... However his form as a key defender had been patchy at very best.

At times it seems that Darcy is being protected by NOT taking the opposition's key forward gun.

I too was confused that Darcy did not line up on Ben King, a big player that relies now on athleticism than brute power for his possessions. I thought Darcy was the obvious choice for King. The move should have been made early on when King got off the leash from the battling Frammers. Run and carry only serves a purpose when the opposition key is not clunking marks and kicking goals.

Darcy has to put his hand up, question his own form, and tell Fly and the playing group that he wants the responsibility for nullifying the best key forward and will play as a defender first and foremost.

Of course at this time of year most players are carrying niggles from a gruelling campaign. We don't know if Darcy is hampered at all. Nevertheless the assumption is that if you take the field you fit to play.

As mentioned by others, Darcy has not provided his signature run and dash to any great effect this season. Fly seems reticent to swing Darcy forward, preferring Howie as his Mr Fixit. If we had greater key position depth Darcy could be a Luke Jackson style of ruckman, and he certainly has Charlie Kurnow's athleticism to play as a forward.

It's time for Darcy the footballer to return to the front line of battle.
