From my vantage, the tv screen, they looked to compress the ground even more so then usual and defend/tackle in numbers.

Hawthorn are a running hands team, and they took the risk hawthorn wouldn't kick over them.

Geelong set up really smartly at stoppage the week prior and didn't really allow port to get so many numbers to the ball.
Geelong had players start a kick away and then run through from behind and Lengthen quickly as forwards.
Geelong also trusted kicking over Port, instead of always running through.

Watch our game against Port back, first quarter handpass happy. Decimated
Get high, Lengthen forward quickly and run from behind decimated them
