Subject: Agree with Pyeman - the fact it's a "deep" draft cohort mitigates the loss somewhat
In reply to: Pyeman WPBD 's message, "The last time the club had 2 top ten picks they were used on Scharenberg and Freeman so" on 17:26 24/09/24 Tue

it all depends ho you want to look at it.

Our dire immediate need is a strong inside midfielder and a draftee will take time to develop the strength and body to play this role immediately.

Another need is keys - forward and back.

The 2024 draft cohort - at the very top end - all project as midfielder type with that sort of size (184 to 192cm)...aside from two or three key prospects, the best-rated first 20 players are mids.

There are a lot of potentially good talls that are expected to be taken in the second round.

It could be argued that - with a strong draft pool - we "wasted" our earliest pick unnecessarily.

But the counter argument to that is that your best pick is more important if the draft pool is NOT strong, because the better players will have been all snapped up earlier.

The narrative over a few years now is that our drafting, trading and list management have been "crap" - but for another 4 days - we are the reigning Premier.

I'll take having banked a Flag last year over arguments about whether the list is sub-optimal or not.
