Subject: The proposal put forward on "Gettable" on the AFL website sounds interesting - and plausible
In reply to: Jack 's message, "If we accept Pick 20 for Noble it will be a mistake" on 20:33 24/09/24 Tue

Cal Twomey has suggested that the Pies could potentially trade Noble and our future first for Gold Coast's pick 12 and - possibly - loose change.

Given that Gold Coast would likely see pick 12 (and their pick 6 if they keep it) 'absorbed' via Academy acquisitions, a first round pick in next year's draft is probably worth more to them.

The converse is true: if we are keen on McGuane - and he is being spoken about as a first round potential - then our 2025 first is not as much value to us as the points we could potentially collect to match a bid on him.

Whether there are exchanges of other picks with points attached to them this year (for the Suns) and some coming back to us, remains to be seen.

Pick 12 would certainly give us options...and I'd be inclined to try an split that pick into a later first round still in the teens (where we will still have a very good chance of snaring a player like Shanahan, Jack or Matt Whitlock, or Faull) and another pick in the mid-late 2nd round (or even into next years draft for points.

I suspect that IF we were to somehow get pick 12, it might be a trade-at-the-draft scenario depending on whether somelike like, say, Armstrong or Tauru is still available at that pick. If they are gone by pick 12, it makes sense to try and split this pick into two picks providing we still think one of the 4 talls mentioned above is still around.

However....the other option is whether pick 12 is not used at the draft at all....does the option to get Petracca or Smith (extremely unlikely) all of a sudden open up?

There also looks to be a fair swag of players who have been made to "bide their time" with respect to contract renewals as clubs try to maximise their lists with whatever is on offer at this year's draft.

Would a "cheap" Matthew Kennedy be a good fit teamed up with Nick and Jordy as part of an inside mid rotation?

The chase for Perryman also looks like a viable opportunity - and as an UFA would no "cost" us a draft pick.

Very keen to see how it all plays out....
