None of our recent guns were that impressive before they became guns.

Who saw Labuschagne coming? Smith was an ugly duckling. Warner a limited overs basher. Uzzies international career looked over before he became a test star. Head was scratchy with a technique that didn't look amazing.

Cam Green is a ripper. McSweeney is a really solid bat given a ridiculously difficult task. Who knows with Konstas. Someone like Renshaw could follow a very common recent path of playing early - looking ok before being found out and then spending a long time learning the game before coming back a top player.
