the way Melbourne Structure their defence, May takes no 1 forward and Lever takes no 3, allowing him to roam around and take intercept marks. Lever struggles with the 1 on 1 stuff so gets protected with the lesser opponent.

Melbourne always played another lockdown KPD as no 2 - McDonald, Petty or Tomlinson. That Tomlinson didnt get to really cement his place in the Melbourne defence speaks to his unsuitability to that role...He is more a poor man's Lever than a genuine KPD.

I also dont think he would be a great foil for Moore. We need Presti to lock down on a KPD and give Moore the latitude he had when he played alongside Murphy. Tomlinson isnt that type, Unfortunately for us, Im not sure that Billy or Dean are either, but at least Billy sometimes plays well and negates a dangerous opponent
