Subject: It does to some extent, but we play a 6v roll up D so it's not really the issue...
In reply to: Geo 's message, "perhaps it depends on who he was playing on" on 11:01 31/03/25 Mon

People say that the problem with Frammers is that he doesn't play the gorillas well enough, but actually his real problem is that he simply does not know how to implement our defensive structure.

We could wear his average one v one loss ration if he knew how to roll up to devend and work as part of a defensive six, i.e when to leave his man to spoil, when to body to allow a third man up, etc etc.

Dean knows how to do these things but is very light framed for a key role and not fast, probably not even as fast as Framton who is also not fast.

Tomlinson was a first round pick, has over 150 games experience, and can probably pay our structure better than Frampton.

Dean may yet come good, but I think at the end of the day we may say that he simply lacks the explosive athleticism to make a player his size into a KPD like Sicily or Lever manage to do.

Tomlinsons time at the Dees was complicated by doing a knee, and by the fact that May and Lever where the clear one two punch for key defenders there, so he was forever a backup.

We have shown over the years with the likes of Lyndon Dunn and Roughead that we can milk some utility out of older key backs if they can play our system.

Who knows, Frampton might finally have found his mojo and start tearing games apart at full back and we will be having a whole different conversation by mid year, but if not, I see no reason Tomlinson can't come in and play a constructive role.
