i went to the show and it was amazing. i was so anxious to go ever since i heard about it that i couldn't believe we found parking and wound our way inside okay.

i had a wonderful time; the only thing was that it was short--well under an hour. not that i expected it to be longer, but the crowd definitely wanted much more. i thought about calling out requests but felt it would be too rude considering they were there to try out new songs. it was two guitars, a violin, and a viola (i think). the violin player may have been the same person @ ATP?

and a cello. but i had no idea there was a cellist until one song where the other two string instrumentalists took a break and i still heard strings. i thought i was going crazy or having a pesky flashback or fuck these are *really talented* guitarists, but apparently i was too short to see all the way to the left of the stage--pathetic considering there was only one relaxed row of people standing in front of me [and i was wearing my extra tall boots].

anyway they sounded great, especially with the strings. they played at least three songs from past albums that i recognized; the new songs made me excited for the next. i hope it comes out sometime soon. or at leas a single or an EP. they opened with a quiet song about "cool, clea[r/n] water." guitar picks were copiously thrown. there was a funny, aborted song about shutting a baby up (and stairs and maybe castration). david pajo came back by himself and did one quick song as an encore.

sorry, but i have a horrible, horrible memory. this isn't a review at all--more like reader/listener response. if it makes you hopeful at all, the person next to me was videotaping the whole thing. and i saw a guy in the bathroom hallway with what looked like a digital recording device right before the set. so it was preserved for posterity.

where was the review you found? if i find any, i'll post them here.

and i can't wait for them to come back here or to san francisco. hope i find out about it--i always seem to hear about shows too late (exception being this one).
