Subject: Balto/DC/Annapolis May '05 Dog Events

There's no excuse to let your dog sit home in May, a ton of things going on. Notable are the huge 5/15 SPCA Walk at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis which is well worth attending, the 5/7 Pet Fiesta in Reston sounds like quite a bash, and a Newf Romp n' Swim on Sat 5/14 at 1pm.

Sun 5/1 105pm, BOWIE, MD: Take your dog to the baseball game! The Bowie Baysox are having Dog Days of Summer http://baysox.com/schedule/?month=05&year=2005 .

Sat 5/7 9am- 4pm, RESTON, VA: The Pet Fiesta http://www.petfiesta.org/ & http://www.gooddogz.org/ will be rocking the Reston Town Center. Jam-packed with FUN activities,a 4K walk, fashion show, costumes, contests, exhibitions, displays, and vendors, this one promises to be a blast.

Sat 5/7 9am, ST MICHAELS, MD: The Talbot Co. Humane Society is having their Dog Walk Day http://www.talbothumane.org/dogwalk.htm at the beautiful waterfront Inn at Perry Cabin. Games, prizes, demos are also featured.

Sat 5/7 10am- 3pm, GREENBELT, MD: Pet Expo at Greenbelt Community Center, 15 Crescent RD Greenbelt MD. Rescue groups, pet-related service providers, demonstrations-agility, flyball, dancing w/your dog. Dogs, cats, parrots, reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, etc. A ton of stuff going on and food is available. http://www.ci.greenbelt.md.us , scroll about 3/4 of the way down and click on the link to a pdf brochure.

Sat 5/7 12 noon, ANNAPOLIS/EASTPORT, MD: The irreverent Maritime Republic of Eastport hosts the annual grueling .05k Bridge Run (yes, you read it right) and Dog Day Afternoon http://themre.org/dogrun2005.html. Silly contests, demos etc. You can find street parking within a couple of blocks and enjoy the Eastport/Annapolis ambience. Get there early (race reg starts at 1030) and mingle with the excited crowd of people & dogs. As a bonus this year, the Rockfish Bar & Grill is holding a Paw Party from 11- 4pm in their parking lot.

Sat 5/7 MANASSAS, VA: Colonial Newfoundland Club's Grooming Clinic http://www.cncnewfs.com/ . Let the experts show you how to make the fur fly.

Sat 5/7 11am- 4pm, PURCELLVILLE, VA: Dog Day at Breaux Vineyards http://www.breauxvineyards.com/ . Dogs get to parade around the winery green and win prizes; presumably their people can slurp wine. It all benefits the Humane Society of Loudoun County http://www.humanesocietyofloudouncounty.org/index.php .

Sat 5/7 12n- 5pm, LAUREL, MD: Fidos For Freedom hosts a Rally workshop, a new AKC event which is a lot more fun than traditional obedience and not as demanding as agility.

Pre and post walk events are promised but they must be keeping them a secret since they don't say what they are.

Sat 5/14 1pm, PASADENA, MD: NEWF ROMP n' SWIM! Celebrate spring by turning your dog loose on the golden sands of the Dog Beach at Downs Park http://www.aacounty.org/RecParks/Parks/downs_park/index.cfm to frolic and swim with other Newfs. The dog beach is in the upper right (northeast) corner of the park; use the last parking lot on the right. Get there early and stake your claim to one of the picnic tables and grills located in a grove of trees by the steps to the beach and have yourself a cook out beforehand.

Dinner, hors d'ouevres, silent auctions and more, all for a mere $125.

Sun 5/15 8am- 12N, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Walk For The Animals hosted by the Anne Arundel Co. SPCA http://www.aacspca.org/ . This is another BIG one, dogs as far as the eye can see. Booths, vendors, freebies etc. As usual, you don't actually have to register and walk; you can just wander around and enjoy the festivities. The bonus is the Dog Beach and fully fenced Dog Park also located at the Quiet Waters Park site.

Held on a spacious enclosed outdoor terrace every Tues and Thurs from 5-8pm (often runs later) from April through Oct, this is a remakable combination of Happy Hour and happy dogs. Free and cheap snacks (ie, all-you-can-eat wings $3.95, buy one burger get one free) and a farm wagon piled high with dog yummies combine with booze to make this a memorable social outing for people and canines alike. Dress ranges from cut-offs and a Tshirt to business attire and street parking can be easily found.
