Subject: Those Attributes Explained #1 - Charisma

Okay this post (or series thereof) has 2 purpouses. The first is to maybe (heaven forbid) generate a bit of on-topic chat and the second is in response to all the people that have said 'why have I got such-and-such skill or attribute'. What I will do is go through all the skills and stats available on personnel and explain what factors are considered when determining them. First of all I will deal with the most misunderstood of all stats, Charisma.

There seems to be a misunderstanding that someones Charisma rating indicates how much we like them. This is only a very small contributor which is a good thing given that who any particular person 'likes' or 'doesn't like' is prone to change at a moments notice subject to such factors as whether they just played a Q-Bypass deck and whether they have just bought you a beer.

Charisma in the game is a combination of 2 factors.

1) How outgoing and outwardly friendly a person is
2) How easy they make friends / how people take to them

These 2 factors are linked together in many ways because outgoing people, generally speaking, find it easier to make friends. These 2 factors combined lead to a number o Charisma scores that seem odd but when analysed make sense. Some of those are as follows:

1) Someone who is a nice person but very insular will only manage an average Charisma (e.g. Colin Trump, Mark Radford)

2) A person who is a bit of a twat but very outgoing may manage to get a reasonable Charisma score (e.g. Stuart Galloway)

3) Someone who is not outspoken but incredibly easy to get along with may get a good Charisma score (e.g. Punchline, Martin Allen)

4) If someone is misunderstood and a bad communicator they may suffer from low Charisma (e.g. Chris Burfitt, Martin McVay)

Hope this helps. More explanatins of attributes coming soon.

PM
