IV is the South Coast's red-headed stepchild. When Goleta recently became a city, it intentionally left IV out of the proposed bounderies so the measure would pass. SB is thinking about annexing it, but that will never pass because SB residents won't want to be governed by officials representing a mostly transient student population.

BMF, I agree with you about IV. I would liken it to Mustang Village x10

No way! It's really a complete functioning mini-city. Mustang Village is just a bunch of apartments. The party atmosphere is probably similar though.

Almost like what Oildale is to Bakersfield

There's a place called Oildale?

Case in point does I.V. have it's own police force, and separate city council?

Technically no. There is a special division of the Sheriff's Dept that patrols the area. I think there's a "neighborhood council" type thing. Remember, this is the People's Republik of Isla Vista.

I agree with everything else Gauchofreg says about ucsb's upside potential, but think that CAL POLY fills that mold better, ie we have a beach,...

You don't have a beach! You can't be considered to be a beach community unless your drunken students can fall off the cliffs in their backyards and perish on it!
