Subject: USFL - XFL 2024 merger

https://www.tsn.ca/nfl/xfl-united-states-football-league-announce-intention-to-merge-1.2013718

Unless I missed it, this was not mentioned here previously.

"Trademark attorney Josh Gerber noted on Wednesday that the USFL had recently filed for 22 new trademarks including those for the "National Spring Football League" and "NSFL," potentially hinting at a new name for the merged league."

Since that report, the XFL has trademarked United Football League and UFL as a projected name for the merged entity. I am beginning to get a sense from around Birmingham (USFL HQ) that this merger may not happen for 2024.

USFL teams continue to sign free agents. USFL cities/teams are starting and continuing to sell season tickets. Rumors of ludicrous proposals from XFL circles such as throwing all contracted players into a pool and re-draft the entire new league. I mean why would the USFL agree to that. They were and are the superior organization. The concept of "merger of equals" was just a "saving-face" bone to the XFL.
