Mystery solved! It is the Sewanee Tigers!

I was able to find the yearbook that that photo came from (1985 GW The Gale - page 120).

Tried to do a process of elimination of opponents from 1984 AND 1983 (just in case) and it is NOT any of these teams:
Baptist, Emory & Henry, Kentucky Wesleyan, Millsaps, Samford & Tarleton State.

So that left the remaining:

Albany State - no
(I found yearbooks for the Rams for 1985 and 1983.
They wore a solid royal blue helmet with no logo and white face mask.
I'm pretty sure the mystery helmet is not them!)

Miles - possibly! Could not find yearbooks, student newspapers OR schedule. Frustrating!
