Subject: D2 Notre Dame Ohio In Talks Being Absorbed By D1 Cleveland State

https://www.insidehighered.com/news/quick-takes/2024/01/30/cleveland-state-notre-dame-college-partnership-talks#:~:text=Cleveland%20State%20University%20is%20in,of%20public%20and%20private%20institutions.

They don't know yet on how to take care of the athletics at Notre Dame College in Ohio. If they merge? Cleveland State would inherit the football team. If now? The whole Notre Dame College sports would all be dropped as students in the sports will go to Cleveland State while football players will transfer to another school.

Lake Erie and Notre Dame are both in Ohio, and both schools have football. It would be a big blow to northeast Ohio as two schools will coming closer to being no more.

One of two things would happen:
1) CSU could absorb the football team and bring it into their D1 athletics fold, much the same way that LIU did when they merged their two campuses' athletic programs.
2) CSU could just shut football down. Since NDC's 2000-seat stadium is on campus in South Euclid, CSU could decide that keeping the team intact on what would become a satellite campus might not be worth it. They could move the team to the on-campus soccer field, Krenzler Field, which seats about 1600, but it would very likely need upgrades to get it to FCS standards.
