Subject: Possible Future Movements

Since the split in D1 is coming, the P4 plus several top G5 programs will be elevated with them which means more openings for the G5 coming soon.

Right now, here are some rumblings going on.

MAC could be expanding up to 15 or 16 teams. Right now, the word is North Dakota State and Illinois State are talking to the MAC about joining. If those two goes? Expect South Dakota State to joining them as well.

If The MWC loses schools? UC-Davis, Sacramento State, Northern Arizona, Montana and Montana State are obvious backfills along with UTEP, ACU, Utah Tech and Tarleton State.

AAC could be down a few schools which Sam Houston State, Missouri State, Delaware, JMU, ODU, Middle Tennessee State, Georgia State, La.-Lafayette and the likes could join. Toledo, Miami, N. Illinois and Ohio could move as well. Lamar. McNeese State, Chattanooga, UCA, Indian State, Youngstown State, Stony Brook, New Hampshire, Towson, North Carolina A&T, Tennessee State, Jackson State, Florida A&M, EKU, Austin Peay, West Georgia and maybe North Florida if they add football as move ups for the lower G5 conferences.

OVC seems to be still talking with UIndy, Grand Valley State, Minnesota State-Mankato and now Central Missouri about joining from D2.

Augustana wants D1 bad.

MEAC is talking to 3 non-HBCUs to join. One of them we think is UNC-Pembroke and the other one could be New Haven. The third one we think was Mercyhurst.

Central Oklahoma have been in discussions with 3 D1 conferences about joining.

There is also talks that the WAC is talking to 2 Lone Star Conference schools into joining.

Central Washington, Western Oregon, Southern Utah, Colorado Mesa, Colorado Mines and CSU-Pueblo all could be going to join the Big Sky. This would be a great home for Central Washington and Western Oregon for their football teams instead of traveling to Texas.

Tuskegee is interested now to join D1 in the SWAC, and Clark Atlanta as well.

North Alabama's football coach let slipped that Valdosta State and West Florida is going to join D1 soon.

A lot of changes is coming as a D1 all sports split is coming soon.

I heard about Valdosta and West Florida's potential move earlier this year. I'm a West Alabama alumni, and UWA is in the Gulf South Conference with Valdosta and West Florida. I spoke to the administration, including the president, about moving to D1, and they wouldn't comment, but West Alabama is working on additions to Tiger Stadium, so a move and a possible announcement could be forthcoming. this doesn't look well for the future of the Gulf South Conference, especially since Delta State narrowly dodged a bullet, in that the Mississippi Legislature defeated a proposal to shut down three small state schools, including Delta State, Mississippi College, and Mississippi University for Women. The plan now is to merge MUW with Mississippi State.
