Subject: Unidentified helmet design #60

Mystery Helmet #60:

I'm not 100% sure but I think it is..

...the Jackson State Tigers!

I tried to cross-reference with available yearbooks of common opponents of Miss Valley and Jackson State and did not have much luck.

Though I did find this photo in a Tennessee State yearbook for 1976.

Page 110 of the .pdf or 216 of the yearbook

Upper left photo - looks like it could be the same helmet as the mystery photo?

Their is also this:

Thanks, I do think that is very probably correct, but will await a clearer photograph before proclaiming certainty. The colors are right for JSU. It has been extremely difficult to locate any photographs for JSU during that era even though Walter Payton was there from 1971 to 1974. There are some videos of Payton which mostly show JSU wearing blue helmets, but with a similar oval-shaped logo containing the letters JSU.

Assuming that curved shape in photograph #60 is the lower-half of the "S", it does seem like the 'J' and the 'U' would be more visible, but perhaps they were ripped off or are lost in glare.

There's a brief color clip of that helmet in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzMfcVqZMX8
