Subject: 2024 announcements

I guess we'll do this another year 🤷🏻. It's still interesting and fun, and most of all I value having the information for future reference - this is the main reason I've tried to do this for many years now. Sadly hardly any college teams appear to document this subject matter in any useful and readily-available way of which I'm aware.

As for the now-here football season - during the early season I tend to prioritize the new teams playing their inaugural games first, then helmet designs that are likely to be "full-time" new ones, followed by the myriad alternate helmet designs. For the teams that use multiple designs I now know that I have to check photographs from every single game, so the most helpful reports from the "public" are those for the teams that do not have a history of using multiple designs. These are of course the smaller colleges. I'll eventually be checking for evidence from every game played by teams like Oregon, South Alabama, Rice, etc so reports for such teams are perhaps more superfluous. But of course everyone should feel free to mention such designs here, particularly if an "interesting" one presents itself.

Good luck this year and thanks again for doing this.
I will keep an eye on the smaller schools as I find them more interesting anyway and report any useful information.
Thanks again!

[> addendum #1 - on 'alternate' helmet designs -- charles arey, 21:17:57 09/02/24 Mon (98.19.145.126)

As has been the case in recent years I am going to generally add new 'alternate' helmet designs to the website only after they are actually used, due to a history of teams altering such designs after they are initially announced and before they are actually used.

This is more true of designs announced many weeks in advance (since there's lots of time for the design to be amended), and less true for those announced a few days in advance. If a team announces on Thursday that they will use design X on Saturday, I may go ahead and add that one the website. But if they say "we will use this design ten weeks from now" I'm probably not going to add that one to the site, due to the prolonged time delay.

(Which is not to say that I anticipate having enough time to add many of these to the website in advance, lol.)
