Subject: "Guardian caps"

I had to look up the name for those odd covers that go over football helmets and serve as an additional safety measure - they're apparently called "guardian caps". I've seen them used during practice sessions a lot, but at least one college team, Alfred University, apparently has all players wearing them during games this year. Below are photographs from Alfred's game against Juniata:

How does this development affect the "helmet design" history for this team? 🤷🏻
