Subject: You'd get a kick out of downtown here now

Stimulus funds were used to upgrade the inlaid brick (as well as all the rest) sidewalks & streets (in conjuction with/preparing for the World Equestrian Games) & they built an overhanging canopy on the Cheapside Park next to the old courthouse (had they built both of the new courthouses @ Short & N Limestone last time you were here?) to make "The Pavillion" an outdoor concerts & walking around entertainment district-y area (along the lines of what I hear downtown San Antonio is like), making the downtown area between UK & Transy into more of a somewhat more Cliftonesque collegetown district with far more niche & specialty bars & venues (especially the Victorian Square) than ever used to be here.

What would crack you up is the Webb bros bought up the Levas/Joe Rosenberg block in the literal center of town - former home to Buster's & Mia's & The (muuuuuch lamented) Dame, THE live music venue in town - for a proposed "Centrepointe" highrise hotel monstrosity & for which funding fell through at the downturn when the - & I'm pretty sure fictional - "mystery investor" allegedly died before the details could be finalized, which left a big mudhole field in the place of what used to be a block of historic city buildings (much to the perpetual howling outrage of almost everyone except the now-deposed politicians who let them bully through with it).

What eventually came from it now is a big grassy field dressed up with black wooden horse fence all around (still) on THE prime block of downtown real estate ... it is literally a city block of horse farm field (they even put some of those artsy painted fiberglass horses 'grazing' in there during Horsemania II)... with McCarthy's Irish Pub across on Upper, Park Plaza & the Public Library on the Phoenix park side (Limestone), the Banks there on Vine & clubs, shops & restaurants like Bellini's on the Main st side.

It's just utterly ludicrous but also quintessentially perfect for "The Heart of the Bluegrass" to now be featuring a veritable (albeit accidental) horse field right smack in the middle of town!
