Yes...definitely missed your point! I'm used to midwesterners thinking of Maine as some isolated backwater...it's amazing some of the comments that I've gotten. (similar to the "You have running water?" comments you get for Kentucky)

The "trending restaurants" bit was silly...you'd think urban v. suburban/rural breakdown would cause a large part of the disparity.

Count me as one though who really liked Lexington...very cool little city. You are right...it doesn't have the same urban core (such as it is) as Portland...but you would feel VERY much at home in our area. It's got a massively quirky population.

As conservative as I am...I really like the quirkiness and variety that we get here in Portland.
