He sees the mares split but is only for the black. He crouched lower and whispered softly to the brown horse whose sweat dripped down his neck and over the saddle. The man looked up and saw the stallion gaining ground and threw the whip up again and this time swerved right throwing a laso into the air. He watched the loop twirl then let it go free hoping, praying it would snag the black horse who only ran about three strides in front of him.
