He felt a stinging pain for a while, but only thought of how he would outrun or loose the man. He looked to his side and saw woods, but knew the man would beat him there. To his left was a river. He thought about jumping it but wasn't willing to risk leading the man back to his mares. So he just kept running out on the flat ground waiting, hoping for an oppertunity of escape.
