Subject: topsoil mildew

I have a tropical plant, similar to a small palm, and I have noticed white mildew on the top soil. Does anyone know of a homemade solution for this?

Jan, is it in a cold place? Is it the furry sort of mildew? If so, the answer is simple - just scrape off the top of the compost or soil, and place the plant in a warmer, brighter place immediately. Don't let the pot stand in water, and allow the soil to dry out before watering again. Make sure there is no debris such as dead leaves on the soil under the plant too.

more air cirrulation is a must.
