This is especially useful for photos uploaded from a digital camera. Instead of those long numbers assigned to each photo by the camera, rename several files or all the files in a folder at once.
To rename all files in a folder, open the folder and click [EDIT] in the toolbar, then [SELECT ALL]. This will highlight all files.
Next, right-click the first file & select [RENAME]. Type in a name that is descriptive of all files in the folder and click [OK] or press [ENTER].
All the files will now have the same name, but Windows will add an ascending number to each file (in parenthesis). It is this number that identifies each file.
To rename several files, but not all files in a folder, click the first file once, then click the last file while holding down the [SHIFT] key. This will highlight the first & last file and all the files in between. Proceed as above.
This works in all versions of Windows.
