I totalled my 928 last year, I was lucky.
I was passing on the right, and this guy pulled right into me, the side he hit (the drivers), was hardly damaged- the glass in the mirrow was cracked, the front of the left fender was cleaned of paint but no major deformation, the problem came after we hit, there was quite a bit of traffic and the very loud sound of impact had freaked me out, I panicked on the brakes, my right wheels were on gravel, my car went into a wicked spin across the highway into the ditch, I was going backward when I went into the ditch so it was my passenger side that got wrapped around a nice big sign post. I was a little shaken up but basically the only thing that got hurt was the car.
their are quite a few ironic angles to the story,
When I got out of the car, spaced out from shock, the first thing I heard was some guy apologizing, yelling it was all his fault, that he had seen me coming and was trying to get out of the way. I guess he didn't realize how fast I was going. His attitude made getting his insurance company to pay for everything easy. I actually got twice what I paid for it.
I was also on my way to S.F. I was about 10 miles into a 4000 mile drive from Halifax, NS Canada, was just pulling onto the highway when it happened. I had bought the car from a moron in Vancouver, Canada, for about $3000US, it was a 1978, it had the clutch problems common to that year but was otherwise in perfect shape, the sound of the engine is what I really miss, it always screamed for more speed.

It looks like you had a beautiful machine, mine obviously wasn't worth nearly as much as yours. The insurance company will probably sell it back to you for about what it's worth. I've heard of some people getting lucky with this sort of thing, but it looks like your car has had some pretty heavy damage, get a detailed estimate on the repairs, and make them an offer. I'm not sure how I would feel about my car if I had of bought the wreck and had it repaired, I think I would have liked to get the wreck and store it with the necessary parts until I was old and retired and had time to fix it, when it happened I had no time to deal with it.
