Subject: bubba buck

I saw the mac daddy of the whitetail kingdom tonight around 5:10 (sunset was 4:40). He came from the field, entered the woods, and was meandering down a path that went by me about 20 yards. It was pretty dark, but I could see his dark outline against the light forest floor. The sag in his belly was noticeable. I looked through my binocs, and got a pretty good view. I counted 5 points on the near beam, and guess he would have weighed in the 250 zone alive. I had to swing around to shoot him, and when I did, he spotted me, gave the distress wheeze /snort, and hightailed it back to the field. I waited another 20 minutes, and quietly left the woods. I watched a doe and her fawn feed on some acorns about 40 yards in front of me for a good half hour before that buck showed. Its cool when you have a deer in sight, because they have bionic hearing, and spot movement in the woods way before I can. The doe tipped me off when bubba came out of the field. This deer was not the same one Steph videoed that I posted earlier. His antlers were unbelievably wider and taller, but I dont think they were quite as thick. His rack was at least a foot taller than his ears, and much wider. It was the biggest whitetail buck I ever had a shooting opportunity on.

Mrs. Ickes went to a movie with her cousin, and I just got the kids bathed, fed and in bed. Im gonna go try to find him again in the morning. I'm gonna climb higher this time so I don't get spotted, and setup closer to where that buck came in from the field.

Ill email in the morning after I shoot him :)

Nighty night.
Jeff
