Subject: a couple of cents

Hey everybody - Just thought I'd give you my take on Andy's, Jen's and Dee's concerns. Let me start by offering my sincerest thanks for the support you've all shown us over the past 5 or 6 years. I’m sure I speak for the rest of the guys when I say we could not have done any of this without your continued interest. That being said, the reality is that no matter which way we go, somebody is always going to be disappointed. The band and our music have certainly changed drastically since we started, but to me this is a sign of growth. I can't speak for everyone, but I personally have changed quite a bit since I was eighteen. Besides being a little thicker around the middle, my tastes in music and just about everything else are quite different than they were 6 years ago. I don't expect everybody to like the direction we're going in - if that were the case I wouldn't feel as if we’re accomplishing anything. If we can't write songs now that we feel are stronger and more mature than ones we wrote 5 years ago, then why continue to write at all? Not only do we feel that we’ve kind of outgrown many of those songs, but the truth is they simply don't "fit" with the newer direction the music has taken.

While we truly appreciate everything that the long time fans have done for us, in the end we have to play what we like playing and write how we like writing and just hope for the best. If in the process, new material turns some people off, then so be it. In my opinion that’s just the way things go in music. The day we start trying to please everybody is the day we really start to sound flat. When I was writing "Adam Gray's Last Words," my mom asked me why I couldn't just say "freaking" instead. I learned a long time ago that you have to do what comes naturally, and what we're doing now feels natural. This goes for the live show in a way as well. Some of the things we used to do on stage just don’t translate as well any more. It certainly isn’t that we don’t have fun playing - being on stage in front of you guys is still my favorite thing to do. It’s just that choreography isn’t exactly our idea of fun. For those that really miss it, I am sorry. I just think we’d rather rely on the songs themselves than what we tend to think of as gimmicks. Now if the show sucks beyond that, then that’s just us sucking and I have to apologize.

Again, everybody (especially super-dedicated folks like Andy, Jen and Dee for example) have really been fantastic and supportive and patient and everything we could ask for. I hope everybody can understand when I say that the four of us just have to do what we do, and hope like hell that you guys are into it. For those of you that are, it’s great to know you’re digging it. For those of you that aren’t, I’m sorry to hear it but thanks for all the support thus far, and hopefully things come back around. In the meantime if anybody has any questions or anything feel free to e-mail me at CoreyPaige@hotmail.com. Thanks again ~Cor
