Mariah's High Note; Explained
Posted on Monday, July 14 @ 12:44:49 PDT by
MusicMan

Heavenchampagne writes "Let me set the record
straight on many rumors and supposedly facts on
Mariah Carey's voice. Mariah Carey's high note in
the live rendition of the Star Spangled Banner
was a B6. It's not a G7# like many say. Mariah
Carey's highest note was a live performance of
Emotions at the Grammy Awards. I believe they
also showed this amazing feat. on MTV and MTV2 22
Greatest Voices. She was the #1 voice. In the
song Emotions her high note in the recorded
version on the album is a Eb6. But in her live
performance she sang higher than that. Up to an
F7#. That is her highest note in a live
performance. If you want her highest note in
recorded music. It's from her first album Mariah
Carey. Listen to the song, All In Your Mind...
Her highest note is an F7. She sings the high
note at the very end of the song as it's ending.
So there's your proof for her highest note in a
Live or Recorded version of her songs.

Now If you want to know that the Guiness Book of
World Records is wrong. They say Yma Sumac holds
the record for posessing a four-octave vocal
range. The widest range ever known to man. But
Mariah Carey's range is actually more than that.
Her range was reported to be 8 octaves. Which
obviously isn't true. If she had 8 octaves that
means she would be able to sing the lowest note
on the piano a C1 [Which is Bass 2 range. {Most
guys about 95% in the world can't even sing}...]
And then she would not have to sing a G7#. She
would have to sing higher than that. Which is a
C8. The highest note on the piano. [No one in the
world known or not known can sing that note. It
has said that only one person probably ever in
the history of man-kind could come even close to
that. {Which is by my facts Mariah Carey. She
sings a F7#. Which is 3 and a half steps away
from the highest note on the piano}...] Which
isn't far. the notes are C, C#, D, Eb, E, F, F#,
G, Ab, A, Bb, B... and then it repeats to C...
and so on... So here is a visual scale of her
highest note from the live rendition of the Star
Spangled Banner to the live rendition of Emotions
and Recorded version of All In Your Mind. B6
(Live Highest note supposedly a G7#... Not true),
C7, C#, D, Eb, E, F, F#7 (Live/recorded highest
note), G, Ab, A, Bb, B, [C8] - (The highest note
on the piano.

Now back to the answer. Mariah Carey's octave
range is four octaves and two notes. She sings
from a D3 all the way up to her highest note
which is a F7#. That's the world record. So Yma
Sumac doesn't hold the record.

Also Mariah Carey's voice is truly a medical
wonder. Her high notes she sings is b/c she has a
whistle register. Which is extrememly rare. And I
mean rare. Being that the dolphine is the only
mammal alive that can hit a note as high her. Now
in full-voice Mariah has a 3 octave range. But w/
her whistle register she can sing higher than
four octaves. My proof is listen to her live
rendition of My Saving Grace from the Soul Train
Music Awards from this year 2003. There's your proof.
Aight I gotta go. Just wanted you to know the
facts. Bu-bye Now my lowest note is a C2 and my
highest note is a G6. My octave range is four
octaves and four notes. And I can prove it. The
piano as my proof. Anyways. I just wanted you to
know the facts about her voice.

Let me set the record straight about Mariah Carey's vocal range. People have always said that the notes in the 6th and 7th octave are beyond human range but that is bull. If that was the case, Adam Lopez would not be in Guinness Book of World Records for hitting the highest note by a male; a D7! The 6th and 7th octave are possible to reach but only a few singers can reach such vocal altitude, namely Mariah Carey, the aforementioned Adam and Minnie Riperton. Mariah can sing down to a B2 as she did at the end of the song 'My All' from the 'Butterfly' album. That is her lowest recorded note, though she probably has hit lower notes on stage. She speaks in a very deep, throaty manner and so it is plausible that she probably could hit a G2 or even A2. Her highest note is the G#7 in a live rendition of 'Emotions', from her 1991 album of the same name. If you were to watch that performance, you would notice that she was not forcing or crouching so that would mean that she could probably go a note or two higher. It was rumoured that she could hit a C8, which is believable since its just 3 notes away from the G#7. Contrary to what some people might believe, the whistle register is apart of someones range. It is an extension of the falsetto register. Without the whistle register, Mariah would only have about 3 octaves. However if you were to count her entire singing range (which is her full voice, falsetto and whistle), Mariah has a vocal range of 5 full octaves A2-A7 or over.
*Whitney Houstons Vocal range is about 3 octaves and a couple notes:[C3-E6].
*Patti Labelle would have a vocal range of 3 octaves. While Patti can sing higher that Whitney in Chest voice, Whitney can sing as high as Patti in falsetto and she can also hit lower notes that Patti. [F3-F6].

Honey made a very clear point.

It is total fallacy for any singer's PR (not just Mariah's)
to claim having an 8 octave vocal range..... that is total horse shit!

I don't know how exact honey's details are but the specifics vary from website to website. Articles say different things too.

The lowest possible note Mariah could hit is a C3 or a B2. Check out the lowest note in My All, and Your So Cold.

The Highest note Mariah hits in full Voice is a C6. Refer to Loverboy (the highest "I-ay" enjoy!) and My Saving Grace (when she Pulls "I" found my saving grace) up. In unreleased records, she hits the c6 in Outside (Butteryfly album)

Only one singer is recognized to hit higher than that... Patti La Belle was said to be able to hit a D6 in full voice.

Regine can hit a C6 too. that is her highest too. Her live rendition of I Have Nothing hits that same level of vocal height when she pulled the word "arms" (stay in my arms if you dare) to c6. whitney cant reach that. She can hit B5 the highest in full voice.

The difference now is Mariah's ability to use the borrowed notes.... or what we popularly know as the whistle register. Mariah may have hit live a G7 not a sharp though..... Rick Dees even mistakenly noted that Mariah hit a B7 in Someday.
Mariah definitely can go a fet or half higher than an F7.

And I saw in an article by boy abunda... that Lani reached an F7# in loving you.... I beg to disagree though.... I feel it falls flat of that note..... and I wouldn't believe that she can hit those notes in Emotions.

Just a thought.

Mariah's lowest note is an A2 and her highest note ever known that she ever hit is a G7. Mariah has 5 full octaves.
Mariah's highest note at full voice is an F7 from what I've heard. I think Mariah hits an F7 in "All in your mind".
Mariah posseses mid voice, full voice, head voice and super head voice to whistle register!

What do you mean "Super Head Voice"? Is it falsetto or the original voice?

"In the latest edition of The Guinness Book of World Records, set for a March 2003 release date, pop-diva MARIAH CAREY scores still another title. According to Guinness officials, the siren's ethereal pipes hold the record for having hit the highest note in the history of recorded music. In a live rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" last year, Mariah hit a G7#-note."

She hit a G7 in a live performance in the MTV awards in either 1991 or 1992 I'm not sure sa year basta she did hit that G7 note, and last year she surpassed herself by hitting a G7# bongga talaga si Lola Mariah. Siguro pinaglihi sya sa dolphin. Kakaloka.

guinness book of world record! Where in the book? Geesh, this news originated from a mariah site late last year, but one will notice that this bit of NEWS is not listed in the book of records back in 2003 nor is it in the books this current year! I should know, I bought the book for my sister who is in Elementary School and made a report about the tallest man made structure - this is another topic, but it is also very interesting.

Her Star Spangled Banner performance during the superbowl was not a G#7. I have it on tape, mainly because it was heavily promoted on TV weeks before superbowl. I also have it in my computer for reference, just in case this sort of erroneous report surfaces.

I repeat, like the person above mentioned, the note she sang during the superbowl in Star Spangled Banner was not aG#7. If you lived in America and you watched the show, people even questioned whether she even sang the note since the camera panned somewhere on the crowd when she sang the infamous note and you only heard this faint flute-like glide that hardly registered.

The highest note I know she reached live was during the UNPLUGGED series for MTV, wherein she reached an incredible C7, not a G7 like many rabid fans insist.

This is what I always notice among avid fans of Mariah or anyone else, they tend to stretch out the facts to promote their idol even further - like the famed G7 she sang in Emotion, UNPLUGGED; it is only a C7 in reality. Honestly, no one needs to do that for Mariah Carey. There are not many people in the world who can sing that high, even among trained coloratura singers. There are only a handful who can hit a C7, if that.

So there is no need to stretch out truth. C7 is no easy feat. Also, there is no one in pop today who can even claim to have reached that same note Mariah did.

It is nice that you love Mariah that much that you are willing to embellish her already superb accomplishments, but she really does not need it. Her accomplishments will stand on their own, not even her breakdown can topple them down.

Good day...

C7 or not, Mariah is, as shanikwa aptly coins, NAKAKALOKA!

Sarcasm. At my worst..
I had a close friend who was a Carey lookalike.
I thought it was cool. Especially when Belle (not
her real name) seemed to act like Carey does too.
Boy, talk about dressing the same as the celeb
you look like without even knowing it. hehe..

But the fun ended when my 'Carey pal' went south
for the border herself. And within the same close
time period after Carey had her 'mental' problem.

I think both of them gave themselves (and their pals)
problems that were mostly of their own making.

Everytime I read anything about Carey and her 'mental
breakdown she had before I remember Belle and her own
emotional circus I had to deal with at the unholiest
hours for a period.

Its an experience I wouldn't want my worst critic to
live through. Excuse my sarcasm. There may be that lesson
here- you might become what your friends (idols) are.

And if they are one big emotional and confused mess
you the one being just a good concern friend might
end up becoming your friend.

In Carey's case, I seen alot of her fans posts go
off a few deep ends when she first lost it and some
fans felt they kept some emotional mental bond with
her. Too many over-the-top defensiveness from Carey's
fans wasn't a good thing to see. We have our own
'fans' who are uh, interesting on the Regine lists.
But most of them have been sensible thinking people.
Not as many badly insecure fans with us.

I'll erase this thread next time.

sorry but this information is in correct. the highest note that mariah can hit is not a C7. although we may seem as though we are stretching the truth, we aren't. Mariah sings an E7 on Stay the NIght (emancipation of mimi). She also sings an F#7 on Mine Again at the end of the word mine. You completely messed emotions up. Because on the album she sings up to an E7 on the run at the end. And on the Grammys 1991 or 1992 she sings emotions and yes she does sing up to a G#7.
the notes go like this.

ah__ah-ah-ah /ah__ah-ah-ah/ ah___ah-ah-ah/
d#6__c#6-d#6-f#6 g#6__f#6-g#6-b6 c#7__b7-c#7-d#7

ah-ah-ah/ ah-ah-ah
g#7-d#7-f#7 f#7-d#7-f#7

THerefore mariahs highest note is not a C7. for all we know it may not be a G#7 she may be able to go higher. Check you facts before you go to typing about what you don't know about.
IF needed i can send you a clip. GOODDAY :P

first i'd like to say that i am one of the biggest mariah carey fans there is, but it is impossible to hit a G7 or C7, according to some, because they are both chords with multiple notes in them as opposed to one note.

Can anyone tell me what note did Mariah hit the highest using the full voice? I have her CHARMBRACELET album and some of the tracks trully impressed me.. LIke the number 12 track "subtle invitation" where she had those high note without whistling at 3:49, and in her REMIXES in "I miss YOU" at 3:04 (without whistling). High notes with whistling maybe her highest is in the track number 2 of Charmbracelet which is the "Boy" where she went so incredibly high at 5:02 maybe higher than "all in your mind or emotions" and the track number 4 of Charmbracelet at 3:45 - 3:47. Please let me know this and also what Regine's highest note ever. Thanks! can anyone explain what's the order of the notes, I'm mulling over it what does it mean like A2, D6 or which is higher a D or a C or is C7 is a whistle note or a full voice note.. that's all.

"In the song Emotions her high note in the recorded version on the album is a Eb6."

You obviously don't know much about voices...she goes up to an E7 in the recorded version of emotions. Brush up on your facts a little bit.

Mariah does not hold the record for highest note, except for maybe highest note in a live performance. Adam Lopez, a vocals teacher from Australia, hit a B7, 1.5 notes higher than Mariah's G#7. He claims to be able to get to Bb9, but I'll believe it when I hear it. And the thing about no one being able to hit a C8 is false. Georgia Brown from Brazil can singer over C8. She's been recorded up to an F8, which is 3 notes higher than the piano.

MARIAH LATEST WORD ON BILLBOARD:
WHERE SHE BELONGS: A 3-2 move for "We Belong Together" (Island) pushes Mariah Carey to her highest position on Billboard's Hot 100 since she topped the chart in February 2000 with "Thank God I Found You." Carey was last No. 2 in August 2001 with "Loverboy." While she's far enough away from Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" (Interscope) to not be a serious challenger for No. 1 next week, Carey could be looking at her 16th chart-topper as soon as two weeks from now.

Carey's chart climb had been aided by an abundance of radio spins. On the Hot 100 Airplay chart, "We Belong Together" rises 2-1, becoming Carey's first chart-topper on this survey since "One Sweet Day" ruled for 13 weeks in 1995-96.

MARIAH's SWEET SIXTEEN!

MARIAH’s SWEET 16th #1 WITH WE BELONG TOGETHER – SHARES PANTHEON WITH THE BEATLES & ELVIS PRESLEY!

THE EMANCIPATION OF MIMI CERTIFIED DOUBLE-PLATINUM

Performer and songwriter Mariah Carey secures her place as the #1 most successful female artist of all time as We Belong Together becomes her 16th song to top the Billboard Hot 100. This positions Mariah as the only artist in contention to surpass the Beatles (with 20 #1’s) and Elvis Presley (18 #1’s) in the modern era. (With 62 total weeks of #1 hits since 1990, Mariah also ranks 2nd only to Elvis, with 80 weeks.) This monumental achievement comes as Mariah’s brand new Island Def Jam album, the
top 5 THE EMANCIPATION OF MIMI, crosses the RIAA double-platinum mark of 2 million units, just 6 weeks after its stunning #1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

“Mariah Carey’s energy and enthusiasm is at an all-time high,” said Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group, “and MIMI is on the verge of becoming one of the most successful albums of her career as a result. It is with a combination of pride and awe that I congratulate Mariah on accomplishing what no other female in modern pop history has been able to do – no one is more deserving than Mariah Carey of sharing the pantheon with the greatest of the greats.”

We Belong Together, written by Mariah and co-produced by her with Jermaine Dupri – also #1 on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart (the most spins ever by a female at the format), #1 on the Streaming Audio chart for a 6th consecutive week, and #1 overall on the AOL Music Network’s Top 11 – has been named the biggest single in the HISTORY of both Mariah and Island Def Jam as it passes the 157 million audience plateau this week. The videos for We Belong Together and It’s Like That stay in rotation on VH1, MTV and BET – both clips were shot contiguously by famed Hollywood director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, Red Dragon, After the Sunset).

Mariah’s 2 month-long television schedule brought her to Los Angeles for performances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Ellen DeGeneres Show – after appearances in New York on Good Morning America, The Late Show with David Letterman, Live with Regis & Kelly, and The View. Mariah performed We Belong Together as Oprah Winfrey’s special lead guest on Tuesday, May 24th, for the finale show of Oprah’s Wildest Dreams season. Also just announced: Mariah will perform We Belong Together at the star-studded annual MTV Movie Awards, airing June 9th at 8:30 p.m./ET. On June 28th, Mariah will perform at the 5th annual BET Awards gala, where she is nominated as Best Female R&B Artist.

Mariah Carey is an award-winning superstar with cumulative total sales of her albums, singles and long-form videos in excess of 75-times platinum in the U.S. alone and 150 million worldwide, making her the top-selling female artist in history. MARIAH SHATTERS BDS 1-WEEK HOT 100 AUDIENCE RECORD WITH 202.1 MILLION LISTENERS FOR "WE BELONG TOGETHER"!

The sky's the limit for performer and songwriter Mariah Carey - who has become the first artist to break the 200 million one-week BDS Hot 100 audience barrier with
We Belong Together (with 202.1 million listens), breaking her own BDS Hot 100 audience record (of 192.3 million, two weeks ago), it was announced today by Antonio "L.A." Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.

We Belong Together, shattered yet another record as the single gathered the largest one-day audience total ever in BDS history yesterday - 32.8 million. At the same time, Mariah's still-new Island Def Jam album, THE EMANCIPATION OF MIMI, certified RIAA double-platinum, stays in the top 5 for a 10th consecutive week (#5 up to #4 bullet), after peaking at #1 twice, in April and again in June.Mariah, who lit up the MTV Movie Awards 2 weeks ago, will perform in London's Hyde Park on July 2nd as part of the lineup of Live 8: The Long Walk To Justice. The once-in-a-lifetime all-star event, organized by Sir Bob Geldof on the 20th anniversary of the Live Aid concerts, will present concerts in London, Cornwall, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Johannesburg, and Philadelphia on the eve of the international G8 Summit in Edinburgh, Scotland. Further information is available at www.live8live.com.

Two nights later, back in the USA, Mariah will be the exclusive headliner for NBC television's Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks® Spectacular, the country's largest Fourth of July fireworks extravaganza, beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET. For the first time ever, the annual one-hour special will feature just one musical performer, as Mariah celebrates the nation's 229th birthday. Her half-hour set will include We Belong Together, America The Beautiful, Shake It Off, and some surprises!

(Dec. 21, 2005 – New York, NY) Performer and songwriter Mariah Carey, whose 5x-platinum Island Records album The Emancipation Of Mimi generated 8 Grammy nominations, earns her 17th #1 career single this week for “Don’t Forget About Us” – to tie one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley’s 17 #1’s, it was announced today by Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.

The news arrives in the wake of another historic announcement – that Mariah will be the first live performer on Times Square in the 34-year history of ABC Television’s “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” spectacular, when she takes the stage next Saturday night, December 31st. The broadcast marks the welcome return of host Dick Clark to the show he pioneered.

Both announcements follow up Monday night’s Radio Music Awards, at which Mariah was honored with the Legend Award and was named Artist of the Year/Urban and Rhythmic Radio, in addition to “We Belong Together” winning both Song of the Year/Main Stream Hit Radio and Song of the Year/Urban and Rhythmic Radio.

Meanwhile, with “Don’t Forget About Us” in its first week at the top, Mariah now logs 76 total career weeks at #1, which ranks second only to Presley’s 79 weeks. And she is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 47 years of the Hot 100 with the potential to match or surpass the Beatles’ all-time high 20 #1 hits.

With a total weekly radio audience over 145 million, “Don’t Forget About Us” – written and produced by Mariah and Jermaine Dupri – is Mariah’s third consecutive #1 with total audience airplay, following “We Belong Together” and “Shake It Off.” “Don’t Forget About Us,” her 10th overall #1 R&B hit since 1990, hits #1 on the R&R (Radio & Records) Mediabase Rhythmic chart and #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Monitor – which now ties Mariah with an all-time high of 5 #1’s for a female on the Monitor. At the same time, the song debuts at #1 on the Digital chart, after last week’s Internet retail roll-out made it available as a digital download for the first time. Five different remixes of the tune, each one exclusive to a separate digital retailer – iTunes, MSN Music, Napster, Real/Rhapsody, and Yahoo! Music Engine – contributed to the single’s surge to #1.

The Emancipation Of Mimi has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide, bringing Mariah’s career sales over 160 million units worldwide. Mimi generated Grammy Award nominations across the board in several areas, including the General Field (Record Of the Year and Song of the Year for “We Belong Together,” and Album Of the Year), and the Pop Field (Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “It’s Like That”). In the R&B Field, “We Belong Together” was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song, “Mine Again” was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, and Mimi was nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Grammy winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, broadcast on the CBS television network (and around the world), 8:00-11:30 p.m. (EST/PST).

Mariah’s Grammy Awards nominations follow her string of wins over the past month, starting at the 33rd annual American Music Awards (where was voted Favorite Soul/Rhythm & Blues Female Artist); followed by the 3rd annual VIBE Awards, where Mariah won for Artist Of The Year, Album Of The Year, R&B Voice Of The Year, and Best R&B Song for “We Belong Together,” the most awards won by any individual artist this year. At the 2005 Billboard Music Awards, Mariah was named Top R&B Singles Artist-Female, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Artist-Female, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Artist-Female, and Top Overall Albums Artist-Female, with “We Belong Together” named the #1 Hot 100 Single Of the Year.

17 number ones to date.... matching elvis' long standing record and catching up with the Beatle's 20.

76 weeks on the number one spot.... more than the beatles' 68 and catching up to elvis' 79 weeks.

8 million copies sold around the world.... in a span of less than a year.....fastly catching up with daydream and music box's 10 million each.... which to over half a decade to achieve.

Cool isnt it?????

i wish this comparison be stopped. it doesnt matter how high or powerful Regines voice is. All i know is that Mariah is the greatest worldwide and i beleive everyone in the music industry around the world knows her. Kahit mabuhay pa nang ilang beses si Regine di nya mapapantayan si Mariah sa achievement.YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF LOSERS!!!

If you will think of a certain country that can level up with America in terms of talent especially SINGING, no doubt that Filipino talents can do even better than the originals.

THE FILIPINO PRIDES:

ASIA'S SONGBIRD-- Regine Velasquez, who can belt out the song in a normal tone without using falsetto or whistle. THE BEST FEMALE SINGER IN ASIA AND ONE OF THE BEST PERFORMERS IN THE GLOBE. Her voice is much higher than whitney and celine. She can sing Mariah ballad songs.

ASIA'S NIGHTINGALE-- Lani Misalucha, she has the best vocal acrobatics.. can sing even better than whitney and she has a whistle better than the emotions of mariah

OTHER FILIPINO PRIDES:
Sarah Geronimo - a 16 year old champion from a singing star search in the Philippines. Celine listens to her songs and she said that " THEIR VOICE ARE REALLY THE SAME".. two notes higher that celine.

FILIPINO TALENTS ARE THE BEST! =)

i agree! regine has a good voice.... but she just sings!!! sometimes no feelings... and i prefer her to sing high tone songs. If the song is simple.... forget about her...

lani misalucha...??? sometimes... she is a mess....
but i think right now, she improved well... performer sya sa States eh... ewan ko na lang kung hindi pa sya gumaling...

sarah geronimo??? she has the feelings to sing... high tone songs or low tone songs... any songs... suitable sa kanya..but higher tones??? para syang batang sinasakal....

mariah is a very good singer and performer... but i think right now... after her transformation... she can't sing her daydream years na....i think she can't sing her full chest voice in a very high tone...iba na talaga pag tumatanda... but her whistle is remarkable parin and undisputable..... never kong narinig si Lani magwhistle.... tiyempo-tiyempo lang... Loving you lang naman kaya nya eh...ang baba lang naman nyun....

whatever it is.... they have powerful voices...it depends to the listeners if they will appreciate it.. matataas nga boses.... nakakarindi naman pakinggan o isinisigaw lang... wla rin....we know how to distiguish naman quality voices right?

tska loko talaga itong si boy abunda... sya lang pala gumawa nung kay mariah tska kay regine.... buti ngayon malinaw na....

For those MC Fanatic who always said MC still has a greater voice thats just an illusion. If you got that MC's live probably that was all of her lipsync, even most MC fans in US admittedly saying MC really does alot of lipsync.

Pls. click this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkhoH7Bxj9k

This video will wake you up on dreaming, MC find it hard to make the high notes. This link will surely make you laugh from her performance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkhoH7Bxj9k

Filipino talents are so rare and one of a kind, world-class per see. They can compete in anything, may it be in acting, dancing, singing, etc. Singing GREATS of Hollywood are tantamount to singing neophytes of the PHILIPPINES. Take for example the case of Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Jed Madela, to name a few. Being new in the singing industry does not mean they're mediocre in their performance. But they prove the world wrong when they won their respective international singing competitions with ease, except of course in the case of Sarah Geronimo who has not yet joined in a competion abroad. this only means that Filipino singers are at par with the singing greats hollywood and the world. They can even make it better if only they will be give a chance. In the case of Mariah Carey-Regine Velasquez on the who's-the-best-voice cometition, I think both have a distinct talent and gift that all of us, audience should respect and notice. Mariah is not regine, and regine is not mariah. In my own opinion, having been hooked to listening music since time immemorial and know the ins and the outs of singing, I would prefer to choose REGINE better than MARIAH. In the argument that Mariah is more popular than Regine, yes she is, because popular US singers will automatically be popular in the world, and so Mariah is. If Regine is an American and like mariah becomes poplar there, she'll be as popular as mariah as now, even more popular. Mariah, on the other hand, is a filipino, she will be like regine, popular in the philippines but not in the world. In terms of sisnging capabilities and vocal ranges of the two, REGINE is still better. She can use his full voice to hit the high notes while mariah can actually hit the high notes only through his whistle. well, who do think has the best and strong vocal range? REGINE definitely.

>I would like to say that both regine and mariah are wonderful singers.
I really like how mariah uses her whistle register which is considered very rare and also hr super head tone/voice.
Her voice may be the rarest in the world.
