My Flame 2002 prototype is around 9kg which I personally think is a great weight for a training boat as one it is taking the knocks better than my old Flame 2002 which was 7.5kg, but is still competitve with the lighter boats although I do notice the difference when getting up to speed. I think that the weight of your boat does make a difference as your boat is an extension of your body and after losing 5kg in body weight over the last 3 months and still gaining muscle mass I have noticed the difference in agility and speed. So my point is when it comes to a big competition and I can jump in a new boat that weighs in at 7.5kgs again, which is in theory an instant loss of around 2+kgs of body mass due to physics I will be loving it.

Note: another two factors that has not come into this phorum which plays big parts are the stiffer the boats construction the faster it is due to warpage at speed and in turning and another is how close your body weight is to the boat you are paddlings perfect paddling weight the toss up between watarerline/hull legnth and hull contact.
