live chat -- Rose aka LilCricket, 20:41:19 05/03/00 Wed
For anyone who is interested, I am trying to get a chat channel going on the undernet... #wls_support. It would be a lot of fun to be able to jump on there and talk to someone live and not have to wait a few days for a response. You do need to have a chat program such as mirc, pirch, or microsoft chat to access the undernet, but mirc is shareware and can be downloaded at http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Park/6000/ All of the downloading and installation instructions are right there, and it is really easy to use. What is nice about the undernet is that you can set up options that cannot be set in a java controlled chat such as the number of people that can use the channel, channel rules, moderation control, etc. And the owner of the site does not necessarily have to be there to use the channel. You can assign any number of people to be channel operators or moderators. The chat can be open to the general public and as long as people are using the channel, it can be open and running 24/7, because the undernet will place a bot in the channel to keep it open and keep the options saved. #wls_support currently has a bot in it and is open but no one seems to ever use the room. The bot will be removed after 1 month if the room doens't start getting used. If you are interested you can email me at cricke19@sgi.net If you need help accessing it, please let me know some days and times you would like to try it out. I am available most evenings and on weekends. I would be more than willing to help anyone with installing mirc or accessing the room, learning the irc commands or anything else involved.

A good laugh -- Rose aka LilCricket, 16:45:23 04/26/00 Wed
For those of you who need a good laugh, I decided to dress up a little for work today. We have been having such beautiful weather. Well, I only have one pair of dress shoes and they flip-flopped all over the place. I felt like a little girl, playing dressup, wearing my mommy's shoes. Guess it is time go buy some smaller ones huh? Of all the places to REALLY notice the weight loss!

11:20p edt Responses -- Juli, 19:20:16 04/19/00 Wed
Jessica.... Nope, that doesn't seem like much at all, but I sure know what you mean, I get nervous even at 4 months. I am afraid of expanding my stomach. But dig this one, today I wasn't hungry at all and had to force myself to eat dinner. I had my protein drink at breakfast, didn't finish it. Had some chicken salad with some saltines at lunch and then tonight I forced myself to have a couple of slices of fat free cheese. And drinking more and more water. I think you fill find yourself going through periods where you are hungrier than others. That's when you want to pay attention to whether it is your stomach or your mind that is hungry?
Penny.... I hope you will have time to drop in a few times a week. The more support that we get the bigger we will grow and gain in information and links of things to read and questions answered.
I know this isn't something we all have time to do every day. But when we can, it's good to know we are here.

Re: 11:20p edt Responses -- Rose aka LilCricket, 19:59:18 04/19/00 Wed
For everyone out there that worries that they are eating too much...I found this program quite a while back at http://members.aol.com/nutrigenie/ngahd43.html I used it for well over a year while I was doing the "dieting" thing with Maridia...which obviously didn't work. But the program is actually a very useful tool...even now after the surgery. With the surgery and this program being used hand in hand...I know I will not fail here! It keeps track of what you eat throughout the day, your calories, protein intake, and the various nutrients as well as help you keep track of your weight loss and...well ya just gotta check it out. It is shareware, but does not expire.

Eating -- Jessica, 17:25:53 04/19/00 Wed
Hi all. I have a question. I'm 4 wks post-op and I've been getting this strange feeling about how I eat since starting on solid foods. I always feel like I'm overeating - is this normal? This has been a standard day:
Protein Drink
1/2 Cup Fat Free Yogurt
2 oz Turkey w/1oz Feta Cheese
4 oz soup
That's it!! I almost feel as though I'm not eating enough, but as you know its tough. And I barely squeeze in 40-50oz fluids, so its not that. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and will it pass? I should probably be grateful, right?

Yeppers, a size 12! -- Mary Anne, 07:26:39 04/19/00 Wed
Hey Juli ... Thanks
I lost rather quickly, I worked out ALOT .... 4:30 am - 6:30 am everyday for a year.
I lost the first 170 lbs in the first year, then the next 55 came off in the next 6 months. I began in October of 1997 and in April of 1999 I had reached goal of 175 and had hernia repair and a tummy tuck.
My weight fluctuates between 175 and 185 ... back & forth.
If I go above 185 I get the shakes ... LOL, scares me to death. So I really watch what I am putting in my mouth.
Talk to you soon
Hugs

Size 12! -- Juli, 05:31:17 04/19/00 Wed
MaryAnne! I think that's wonderful. Please feel free to go on about yourself any time you wish. And running 5 miles? That goes beyond awesome. You are true incentive.
One question. At any point did you find yourself gaining back any of the weight you had lost? And was there a point that the weight just stopped coming off? And how long after surgery was that?
Love and Laughter!

I can relate -- Mary Anne, 03:13:07 04/19/00 Wed
Cheryl....
Boy, I can still remember those first few days of "What the hell did I do?" That was almost 2 and a half years ago, and what a long strange (but amazing) trip its been.
This surgery really does give us the tools that we need in order to regain our lives. I would do it again in a NY minute...my life has changed so drastically and I am so much happier and healthier than I ever dreamed.
I started this journey wearing a size 32 / 34 .... I know wear a size 12. I could hardly find the energy to do the dishes, now I run 5 miles 4 times a week. I was sticking two needles a day into my body for diabetes, not a trace of diabetes now.
I do not mean to go on and on, I just know that this is not an easy time for you, and I want you to know that it is worth it!!

Tuesday Night -- Juli, 18:01:37 04/18/00 Tue
Cheryl! I, for one, am so happy about how well you are doing. I had to laugh when you talked about your pain as I went in thinking it would be along the lines of Gall Bladder surgery that I had two years ago. Silly me!
I guess every doctor does it differently -- mine is a vertical scar. I really don't care if I can never wear a bikini again, just so I can wear a swimsuit without wearing a tent around it.
By the way, if you have trouble quenchy thirst with water, as that was something I had difficulty digesting for about the first 5 weeks, go to the sugarless frozen pops. They really helped me! In fact I think they were a life saver.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Jeanne! I wish I knew what was going on. It looks the same to me. We need a software guru out there that understands this stuff. Actually the print looks like the Comic Sans Font as that is what I have my preferences set to. I got to the point I was so confused with Internet Explorer that I went right back to Netscape. I know how to work with it. But I am checking out there for you.

I'm Home -- Cheryl R., 11:12:49 04/18/00 Tue
Hi everyone. Just a short post to let you know that everything went just fine on Friday and I am home. Came home yesterday afternoon, but mostly slept. Sure don't get alot of rest in the hospital!!!! My doctor does things a little different than most that I've read about. My cut is horizontal. He says it will heal faster and with less chance of hernia. Also, I am already on soft foods. That first egg yesterday morning sure did taste good! Can't even eat the full 1/2 cup that I am allowed at this point. Will be of soft foods for about a month. Then I can start to experiment.
I must admit that when I first woke up after the surgery, I was pretty sure I had made a BIG mistake! Haven't felt that way at any time since. Pain meds are a plus! But I am healing well. Was walking around by the 2nd day! I want to thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. I'm sure it was all your positive energy that is helping me to recover so quickly.

Help me understand -- Jeanne, 04:59:08 04/18/00 Tue
I dont understand! Do any of the old post ever come off or does the page just get longer and longer? Also I got an email from Juli showing me how Jamie was changing the format alil and I really liked it, it was much easier to read in print but when I came back to the forum it was in this cursive style. Does everyone else have cursive, how can I change mine to print?
Thanks for any and all help

I hope you will forgive my silence, but at this point I am at a loss for writing much of anything.

Aleins in the esophagus -- Mary Anne, 02:56:43 04/17/00 Mon
Hi Debbie ...
Goodmorning.
No, they do not make the esophagus (sp) smaller, at least with my surgery. But, if the food cannot be taken into the pouch, that is where it sits. That feeling is most uncomfortable.
Have a great day

Sunday Afternoon Break -- Juli, 11:12:26 04/16/00 Sun
LilCricket.... I don't have a mic on my little lap top. The programs I do have on this computer are AOL's instant messenger, the MSN Instant Messenger (ugh) and ICQ. I have noticed with the new AOL version 4.0 they now have it available to do voice chats as well or to be able to send instant vocal messages. Perhaps when I get in my new place and get my desk top unpacked, find all my supplies, I will be able to join you. What a great idea! Thanks and I promise I will mention it at my Group Support meeting on Tuesday night.
Mary Anne... I promise not to shoot you. I think we all get used to the format, it will become second nature. Especially when there are more people posting and they get in with the swing of it.
I hope you are having a great day. I feel like I am accomplishing something here. I have ironed some sheets (I know, consider me sick), packed three boxes and now my break time is over and I have to get back to it.
Will check in this evening.

My Appeal -- Vickie Ames, 23:04:54 04/15/00 Sat
Hello!!! I finished my last meeting with the diet nazi on Friday. The 30 day trial of small meals...which was nothing more than me writing down the time, the place, the amount, my mood, my activities, the people I was with, etc. while eating 1 oz of various foods as directed by the nazi. (This will be my life post surgery I was told) It was soooo incredible and stupid. I now will be filing my 2nd appeal next week and waiting to hear back from my insurance company. They dictated that I complete the trial meals regime. I have no idea if they will approve my surgery or not. My exclusion reads "All services and supplies related to the treatment of obesity, unless there are complications by an organic disease such as diabetes or hypertension." I have had hypertension for 10 years, which is currently uncontrolled by medication, ho hum. So, I wait and see what happens next. Thanks for providing a forum for venting. Most of my people are very supportive, but since every single one of them are slim, they cannot relate to the everyday trials we pre-ops are subjected to. Vickie Ames

Hey there,
I just wanted to let you know that after the surgery, it is a heck of alot easier to eat 1 oz ... I am not sure If I could have done that prior to surgery. After the surgery, you really have no choice.
So, keep your head up....do what they ask, even if it seems strange and uniformed. Because, it is all worth it in the end!

Vickie, I am glad you came by even if just to vent. I have to admit, keeping a food diary was never an easy thing for me to do. I still don't do it. Though I am very aware of what I put in my mouth and I try to pay attention is my stomach hungry or is my brain hungry. That seems to be helping me.
I hope you will let others know we are here to support each other and if you have questions we will try to get the answers if we don't know them.

One Important Fact -- Juli, 17:20:04 04/15/00 Sat
I have noticed that this forum will be really easy to follow if we do not respond to individual posts but rather scroll down to the bottom of the page and create a new subject, then it will keep the most recent post on top, rather than having to scroll down and find out where someone responded. Even if you add a number like "Response 1", "Response 2"....
I tried to fix it so the "Post A Reply to this Message" would just disappear, but I haven't resolved that one yet. So your help in ignoring it will be easier on everyone.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome -- Juli, 08:32:12 04/12/00 Wed
Well here it goes. I've never created a forum before. I certainly have visited enough. I find this way of participating a much more lively way of sharing, rather than cluttering up the mailbox.
While I was setting this up, I didn't see any rules about language or anything else being moderated. Even though I did set it up, I don't see myself as a moderator. I think we can all moderate ourselves quite nicely.
I am not suggesting anyone leave ossg-main or Linda. I am only offering this as an alternative. Another way of sharing what's in our hearts, minds. What's funny, what's sad.
I don't care if someone wants to post a joke. I don't care if someone's car broke down or kid has a cold. This is about us, our lives and doesn't have to be completely limited to food, if you don't want it to. It's all the other activities, events in our lives that relate to us and our perspective towards food anyway. If the boss is screaming at you, do you want to scream and yell in here that the boss acted like a jerk or run to the refigerator? That's what I am talking about.
None of us are above it all. We need each other and how lucky and blessed we are to have something like the internet where we can remain anonymous and still let our hair down.
You can add a book or a sentence or a word. The important part is that you feel comfortable and safe! I am just an average person, who happens to be unemployed at the moment. I sincerely don't think I am anyone special except to me. I have come to love myself and know that I am worth it. I didn't go through the hell of having my surgery December 14, 1999 for some man or an event, which is a certainty for setting up failure. I did it for me.
If you have questions of me, please feel free to ask. I promise to be as honest as possible. For me communication and honesty is the most important part of any relationship. Without it, we have little else.
I hope you will find this to be a nice break in the day for you, a mini home away from home, if you will!
Thank you for indulging me if you have stopped by. I welcome you with {{{warm breezes, light, laughter and love}}} because you are worth it!

What a beautiful letter .... you have done a great job.
Hmmm .. is that a one liner (LOL)
Welcome everyone!!
BTW... my name is Mary Anne, I had gastric bypass surgery on 10-20-97, I am 6' tall, began this journey at 397 lbs, I now weigh 175. I was diabetic, I am no longer. I had hernia repair and a tummy tuck in April of 1999. This surgery has given me the tool to regain my life. If anyone has any questions, feel free to post, or e-mail me directly.

Thank you! You are the kind of inspiration that I know I need. I still have about 80 lbs. to loose. I have been setting mini goals for myself and if I don't exactly meet them, I am not going to beat myself up.
The only thing I am still trying to work out is formatting this forum. I am not crazy about the pyramid affect, so bare with me as I go through some changes with it.

Think about it, when was the last time you "only" had 80 lbs to lose ... thats wonderful! Setting mini goals is a great idea. Are you exercising? This is the most important thing!!
I just love this new format... thanks for doing a great job!

Re: Welcome, Welcome, Welcome -- Juli, 04:54:52 04/13/00 Thu
MaryAnne,
Believe me I am not complaining, even if I have been plateaued for about 3 weeks. I do use a treadmill and was up to 40 minutes every day each time. But I got two really rotten blisters on my feet and couldn't get my new tennis shoes on (blisters created by old ones). So I've been off of it for over week as they kept breaking open and bleeding. I am hoping to get out today to find some mole skin (in the Dr. Sholl's section, I think).
I am glad you love this format!
FYI to everyone, if you create a new topic, that will appeart at the top of the page. Then unfortunately you have to scroll down to see new messages underneath that topic.
I am hoping to eventually figure out how to simplify things, but if everyone is used to this -- I won't mess with it.
Juli

Re: Welcome, Welcome, Welcome -- Debbie Troop, 07:39:16 04/13/00 Thu
I am sure all will be fine here! It's funny, but I am really depressed right now. I had the surgery and kind of thought everything is going to be great. Well, not! My darned septic tank is all backed up again - we have put a few thousand down that hole this year already. I don't have the money to fix it again. My husband is still sick and I guess being here with him all day just brings it closer to home how rapidly he is failing. He feels terrible and is grouchy all of the time. Sometimes I think he and my son are going to come to blows, except my son would never hit him back. I think right now my biggest problem is how to deal with this depression without turning to food. In the past I would grab a book, Pepsi, and Chex Mix and zone out. I have been feeling so good, so don't know what is wrong with me today. Of course, I could be PMSing. Didn't think about that.

Re: Welcome, Welcome, Welcome -- Mary Anne, 08:10:11 04/13/00 Thu
Debbie ...
This too shall pass.
Easy to say, huh .... Take heart, we all go through depressed times in our lives, then things begin to look up again. Just think, if we did not have any lows, how would we know how good our highs can be?
So many things get better with the weight loss, but unfortunately, it does not solve all of our problems. Sure wish that it did! But I believe that in feeling better physically and mentally we are able to handle all those things just a little better. Do me a favor, if your depression continues ... talk to your doctor about it. I take Prozac ... better living thru modern chemistry!! It works for me.

to Debbie -- Chery, 10:55:55 04/13/00 Thu
oh ((((Debbie))))
there's always going to be the day that things look worse than usual. septic tank HAS to be fixed, and there is no money to do it, and it is harder to watch a loved one suffer than to suffer yourself. you didn't mention if you have had trouble with depression in the past. even if you haven't, you might want to mention to your PCP what's going on. sometimes people need help to get through a difficult period and there are so many wonderful drugs available for depression now. for me, it's a genetic thing. runs in the family and i will probably always need them. but i know other people who take them for a short time and then are able to go off when the rough spot is behind them.

Welcome ... Your doing fantastic! You may have a ways to go to get to your goal, but YIKES!! Look how far you have traveled already. Keep up the exercise, it works, trust me!!
You are not going to believe the difference after the tummy tuck ... it is amazing. I have one question, if you do not mind.
My surgeon had me wait until I was within 10 lbs of goal to have the tummy tuck done. What happens if you have it done now, then lose more weight, won't your stomach get loose again? Will you have to have it done all over again?
Keep up the EXCELLENT work !!
Hugs

Re: about me and my wls -- jeanne, 10:28:19 04/14/00 Fri
Char
My plastic surgeon has no way of knowing if I will need another tummy tuck. He also said there is no way of saying I wouldnt need 2 procedures down the road either, meaning when I reach my goal. So I have 2 ways of looking at this, first of all I am in major discomfort due to cellulitose (skin infection) and foliculitose(hair folicle infection)due to the massave size of my pannis (the lower part of my stomach)and the heat created from the weight of it resting(literally) on my lap. I have a very hard time wearing any kind of clothes because it looks absolutely hideous and only stretch pants will go over it. When I was at 422 I only wore dresses...but now all my clothes are too big and I dont want to buy new ones yet. Second of all tomorrow is not promised to us so therefore if I can experience one day of seeing my lap again then I figure the sooner the better. Why carry around a ball and chain if you dont have to? Dr O my wl surgeon also suggested to wait until I reach my goal, but I am aware that he has performed this type of surgery himself on his gb patients at the same time of the wls. I asked him to do this for me and he wouldnt........I am in excellent health, thank the Lord, and there was no real reason he couldnt do it for me. I am hoping and believing that with the exercise and strict diet I have become used to that my tummy will stay tucked. I mean its hard to imagine if he scrapes all the fat he possibly can and the skin that my tummy would loosen back up. Trust me I have alot of fat in other places thats keeping me from my goal. I really dont know, all I know is time will tell. So wont you all pray this will be the only time I have to have my tummy done. I hope so because I have a big list for him........breast, thighs underarms, and backside. I am not fooling myself into believing exercise will eliminate all the excess skin, although I know it doesnt hurt to try.
Sorry so longwinded!
Jeanne

Is there a certain amount of time that the messages will remain on the board?
I was wondering if in the year 2004 we will be scrolling through our first ones... or do they delete automatically after a certain number of days, or is this a manual task that we need to take on?
Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Thanks for the invitation. Hopefully I can contribute something worthwhile from time to time. For anyone who is interested, I am thinking of starting a live chat channel on us.undernet.org which can be accessed by using mirc or pirch. If you don't know what that is, or if you want more information or are interested...feel free to drop me an email. Where is everyone? -- Debbie Troop, 18:25:30 04/13/00 Thu
OK. Where is everyone? I came here for my group hug!! Tried to kill myself at dinner tonight -- I either ate too fast or did not chew it well enough. Stuck right above the boob level! Oh, my God. I thought we were going to the emergency room to open me up and yank that crud out of there! I took a few sips of water and it finally moved on down. I ate this pasta stuff and guess didn't puree it well enough and I thought it was soft enough to not cause a problem. OK, smaller bites. I have to remember smaller bites.

Deb,
Pasta GROWWWS when you eat it, as does anything starchy. Take your time, eat slowly, pay attention to how your body feels while eating.
Also, Protein expands before it breaks down, so do not eat until you are full, eat until you are satisfied.
Hate them sneak attacks, where you eat, think your fine, then BAMMMM .... an alien is trying to escape from your esophagus.
Have a great day gang !!

Re: Where is everyone? -- Juli, 05:29:53 04/14/00 Fri
Debbie, you didn't scroll down far enough!!! It was here, honestly! Everytime someone responds to a message, the original message moves to the top of the page again and the new topic gets moved down a notch. I'm sorry if it seems confusing, but I think you will get used to it after a few visits.
And get off that damn pasta! No more pasta, no rice... You are supposed to limit yourself to:
- Protein first - It fills you up faster
- Veggies Second
- Starches only after you have reached your goal
We loose the most weight the first 6-12 months. Don't stop that process!!!

Question of Exhaustion -- Juli, 14:02:11 04/12/00 Wed
I have a new question to ask anyone. For the last three weeks, I have been waking up more tired, like I am drugged then when I went to the bed the night before. I have been taking 5 mg Ambien before I go to sleep, so I can get to sleep and for the most part, I don't recall waking up during the night.
I have put a phone call into my doctor, but have not heard back yet. I am agreeing to a sleep study test, but I wonder if anyone else has been experiencing anything close to this?
I'm tired of being tired!

When I took Ambien I was crazy. I was talking out loud all the time. One day in the hospital I was reading a book - out loud - and thinking how interesting it was. I was going on and on, page after page. Then a ray of sanity broke through and I realized I didn't even have a book open! My gesturing and talking at night drove my poor husband crazy. Finally went off the stuff. For some reason I just couldn't handle it. It's pretty potent and may be why you're tired.

I take ambien aswell, if the dosage is too high, then I get a "hang over" effect. You should talk to your doc about the level of dosage. Also, maybe your iron is low.... is it time to have your bloods done? Check with your doctor.
Good Luck

Re: Question of Exhaustion -- Juli, 14:03:04 04/13/00 Thu
I take the 5 mg as the 10 mg was totally making me hung over. I felt much better tomorrow. I took it earlier last night, and it was a much cooler night. I left my window open and I think that made the difference. I am not ready for the heat yet, that's for sure.
And speaking of drugs...guess what he gave me (via phone) today... I told him how bloated I was and he perscribed exactly 3, dig this, 3 lacix pills (20 mg). How silly is that? I wonder if he thinks I am abusing them? I did find out from the pharmacist it was the Motrin 600 mg that was causing my bloat. So now I have to decide pain or bloat? What a choice we have, huh?

Frustrated!! -- Juli, 07:18:31 04/13/00 Thu
Good Morning Everyone!
Well this is the pits. I have rebooted three times this morning. Logged on and off 5 times. I can receive e-mails, but now I can't send them. I don't know what the hell is going on, but I guess I am going to have to break down and call Mindspring. So I am silent with the OSSG-Welcome at the moment.
This is when it becomes tricky with the internet, as I have good friends and family that don't get involved with forums, so they have no idea when I am not writing what's going on. Like maybe I am being a snob? I know I get concerned when I don't hear from someone for awhile. But for those of us who do and can use forums, will at least know what's going on. I hope to get it resolved before the day is out.
By the way, I finally got my doctor to approve a diuretic for me. But still arguing with him for temporary disability payments. My breathing seems to have gotten worse the last two weeks. And I don't know anyone who would hire me in my industry with an oxygen tank attached to my nose.
Funny about descrimination. They don't have to say you're fat, you've got oxygen, we don't like your skin color, your religion, your hair color, age, gender --- They can always come up with something else.
For the record, I have been free lancing as a motion picture accountant for the last 21 years. I haven't worked since last May, mostly by choice. I wanted to sell my house (in California) and get the hell out of that state. I couldn't deal with the congestion, the pollution, and the cost of living -- nor did I ever want to go through another damn earthquake.
I moved to Wilmington, North Carolina last August in time for 3 hurricanes. And you know what? I would take a hurricane any old day over another damn earthquake. The last one in February 1994, nearly destroyed me. And I am a native Californian.
I love the Southern Hospitality, the gentile pace. I don't exactly like Jesse Helms and is narrow minded thinking.
I am about unity and the equality of mankind. I don't think I am better than anyone else. I perceive this life as one big test to make my spirit stronger. I am totally shy (can you believe it?) but love meeting people.
And I'm going to be a very young 52 year old this month!
Okay back to figuring out what's wrong with my ISP (Internet Service Provider). Rats.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!
Juli

Big surprise (not) -- Cheryl R, 18:57:00 04/12/00 Wed
well, well, well, seems I got kicked off of the old Main list! no notice or anything. I was just trying to respond to someone's good news of being approved and the letter kept coming back to me. I checked on Onelists, and sure enough, I had been removed. Now, I had not asked to be removed. All I did was sign up for the "Welcome" list. If that isn't facsist behavior, I don't know what is!

Open RNY on FRIDAY!!!! Yikes.

I wondered if something like that might happen. I've subscribed to welcome ... guess we shall see if I remain on the main list also.

That is scary that she is that vindictive. I'm serious, girls, I think the woman has definitely got a mental problem.

Re: Big surprise (not) -- Judi, 21:42:33 04/12/00 Wed
Oh I'm so thankful we are all together here! I'm sure I'm going to be ex-communicated from the main list also, but I'm glad we now have someplace we can at least tell someone congratulations, or good job or even to tell them that we'll say a prayer for them, without it getting rejected because it was only one frigging line! After that happened to me on several occasions, I started saving up all the one liners that did get through and was going to put them in one giant email and ask how come these got through and mine didn't! I felt was in the most awful prediciment of wanting to quit (did so 2X and always came back) but didn't want to lose out on the good friends I'd made. There are so many of you that I've responded to by trying to give you a pat on the back but unfortunately they never made it to you...sorry about that. I have been gone all day and am just catching up on the mail. Will post more later. Oh..and BTW..I wouldn't let the threat of "privacy act" and attorneys scare anyone. If y'all recall, we were told many times to contact each other privately...and that's exactly what was done, and if someone isn't real proud of what she wrote, then Tough SH*T. Hugs to all, Judi

Re: Big surprise (not) -- Juli, 04:48:11 04/13/00 Thu
Hey Judi,
Regarding the one liners, that's when Linda not got nasty with me. I don't know if any of you saw her response to me, but it was something to the affect that one-liners would not be tolerated because this was a loving, caring forum that needed deep thought for the concerns of others! Like telling someone "Bravo" isn't concern? Excuse me, but what defines support? Her over abundance of joyous snipping and demeaning behavior?
What was I involved, less than 10 days? The the second day she told me she didn't have time to explain the list method (which thank God I didn't do....my friend had to call her ISP company to have them delete email as it was clogging up her lines). And then just last Sunday, like many of you I got her "tired routine and over 1000 emails to go through). Well lady, if you didn't want the job, why'd you take it?
{{{wishing everyone radiant beams of light and warm thoughts}}}}
Damn we're worth it!
Juli

Re: Big surprise (not) -- Juli, 04:42:07 04/13/00 Thu
Personally, I think this kind of format is so much easier anyway. What's funny is that I haven't been booted off yet. I am only hanging around look enough to find other wayward souls. Unless someone else wants that job? I'm not working right now, so sigh I suppose I should be doing something constructive.

Invite -- Jeanne, 13:33:37 04/12/00 Wed
Juli,
this is a great idea now maybe I wont get 100 emails a day.
Don't get me wrong getting some email is good but ossg-main just sent me one too many. And of course since Juli and I share the same surgeon and have become friends it feels much more personal. I am looking forward to meeting new friends here!

Re: Invite -- Juli, 13:59:26 04/12/00 Wed
I have to admit, that type of interaction was getting over whelming. And the fact that responses were really delayed, sometimes I forgot what I was asking or what someone else was asking because the previous messages was deleted.
Anyway, very confusing at times. And it almost felt like an envastion in the space of my regular emails of family and long time friends and those new found friends that have become dear to me.
I am going to bring this forum up at our meeting next Tuesday night and I sure hope, while it might seem a little snoozy now, it will pick up steam!

There isn't any Sally. All our responses stay right here on this forum web site. Isn't that neat? Easy cheesy tracking system

Format Changed -- Juli, 14:17:21 04/12/00 Wed
Hot dog! I just fixed the format, so it can be one continuous conversation and we don't have to have that crazy pyramid which makes me nuts and hard to follow. This way, the most recent message will be on top and so forth....
All I had to do was pick verbose! hahahahha. I should have done that in the first place, knowing what a chatter box I can be.
And I fixed it so you can now edit and correct typos and spellings.
Also if any of you are html savy, you can do this here such as changing font color, you can emphasize with either underlines or bold type face or even doing
- lists of do's and don'ts
- lists of recipe links
- lists of pet peeves like moderators who don't get enough sleep
Feels cozy already!

Thanks for the invite -- Marcy, 09:51:53 04/12/00 Wed
Hi there!
I just wanted to say thanks for the invitation to join this forum. I'm not used to this particular type of group but will do my best to figure it all out lol.....I welcome the chance to be able to talk and chat freely without being discouraged as to what I can or can not say. I have been quiet for several months in the other group because I didnt want to be slammed on one of Linda's "days" but I hope to become an active part of this forum. Thanks and have a great day!!!

Re: Thanks for the invite -- Juli, 10:03:44 04/12/00 Wed
I'm glad you ventured in. You won't get monitoring from me. I wouldn't even know how! I am not exactly a rocket scientist when it comes to the net. If I were, I would fix that silly icon at the top of the page.
Besides, I have a few other forums (not ones I created or related to weight) that I like to visit each day.
I am hoping to make this as painless as possible.

P.S. -- Juli, 08:51:09 04/12/00 Wed
Thought it was important to let everyone know you don't have to use your real name if you don't want to. You can use initials or aliases if you wish. What ever works for you!
