I don't think any "new character" brought to Andromeda will be accepted by some of the fans unless RHW is brought back to the helm of the series.
<<rant to follow--forgive me Mai>>>>>
Unless Dylan is moved to the background, made more disciplined, mission oriented and sticks with ONE woman only, or none at all--and does not make the "decisive play" except once or twice per Season---OR is made one of the Triumvir's of the new Commonwealth and LEAVES the Andromeda and only shown in a few episodes---
Unless Beka is brought to the front as the HERO and pulls the entire crew together, (which was once Dylan's job)--
Unless REv is brought back AS a Magog, or a complete human--but is still there for spiritual and counseling purposes--
Unless the writing is in the style of B5 or Farscape--with heavy dialogue, very little action--conflict/betrayal within the main crew with morals, goals, and inner conflicts--
Unless there is a FULL crew compliment on the Andromeda---and Rommie is given a more "human" role---given more chance to be accepted as a "real person"--with feelings, attitudes, brains, and can be shown as no different than any other "human female"---
Unless there is betrayal/conflict--very little hope--a strict purpose for the crew that results in very little to gain and much to lose each episode--AND
Unless the crew of Andromeda FAILS more often---with the villians getting the upper hand---
Many fans will never enjoy Andromeda.
What really amuses me is that some of these fans FORGOT that was NOT how RHW actually began the series. Dylan was the pivotal character---the fish out of water that was the KEY to reuniting the galaxy. One of the promo's for Andromeda before the Premiere stated---"A universe in chaos---destruction everywhere--and all are searching for a HERO"--(then a scene of Dylan in what appeared to be a life-pod) then full frontal of Dylan standing--- "He is coming."
A hero is never easy to play---and as far as I am concerned, tho Dylan as kissing a number of females, there has been very little flirting on his part---AND Beka hasn't fared much better with her rendevous with her "bad boys".
RHW wrote Andromeda from the standpoint of "Hope lives again on the Andromeda Ascendant". Yet, there was little to hope for. The characters seemed in the first season to be fighting with each other rather than working together as a team. When the crew began to work together, (especially Tyr) that is when fans began to talk about their "displeasure".
Tyr was considered wussified because he was not either trying to take over the Andromeda---or because he was starting to show a "softer side".
All of the characters on Andromeda were EQUAL. They each brought something different to the show. But Dylan's character is the catalyst here. It was supposed to be HIS role to unite the crew--give them a purpose--help them to be the BEST they can be. Unfortunately, some of that has been lose, because Tyr became the central focus for many fans, that and Beka.
Beka and Tyr could still be the strong characters they were in Season 1 and be working as a team with Dylan and the rest. But many fans did not seem to want to see that.
This is what I am reading from fans on AMB and on Ex-Isles.
It's a shame that they forgot what RHW originally started.
I admire your attempt at trying to get the fans together to find out just WHAT they want for the series--Rayhana---but I think that unless you bring RHW back and you bring the series back to the dark--betrayal/backstabbing/villians who WIN more often and less HOPE you will find that many will not tune in.
Just my opinion, but based on many comments from the old Slipstream BBS, from Ex-Isles, from Slipstream Underground and the AMB board.
ok--rant over--for now <g>
