Subject: There is something seriously wrong with any Irish Dancers and their parents if they see no other redemption in dancing for fun at shows.
In reply to: JMHO 's message, "Irish Dance has a problem just as big as the cheating. The use & abuse of dancers to promote dance schools and culture without pay. Aside from developing confidence for a select few, there is no inherent benefit for dancers to perform unpaid. Looking back at over 15 years of parades and performances and the month of March it now seems like abuse." on 16:55:16 03/15/24 Fri

What about building memories and friendships? What about sharing with the community? What about just having fun and getting exercise? Bringing joy to others? Getting to do something you have passion for? You don't consider any of that benefits?
Your remark is a reflection of the fact that too many Irish Dancers have become overly focused on getting a trophy for Irish dance and forgot that it is a hobby that you do because you enjoy doing it.

  • Our school had a committee of parents and a bank account, any money received from performances or any fundraisers went into that account and paid for dancers going to Nationals and Worlds, school dresses etc, all dancers who participated, benefited. As a fellow parent of a dancer, our TC got the same share as everyone else when funds were divided. (NT) -- No name, 16:09:13 03/16/24 Sat
