In reply to: 🙄 's message, "You are daft - the teacher takes all the $$$ from shows. Also it was meant the parent association should get some to benefit all dancers- like to the treasury for things like parties, picnics, celebrations throughout the year etc." on 16:24:59 03/17/24 Sun

I was answering the hypothetical of dancers getting paid and then having to pay back what they get from the shows and the true cost that go into shows. The teacher SHOULD take the money from shows. Most shows are opportunities for your children to dance and share their art form. They are not professionals and the money the teacher gets can help them rectify the high costs that often aren’t covered from running a school from increased rents, insurance, dues to CLRG, IDTANA and their region, advertising, music royalties, choreography, time spent doing billing, class assignments and communicating with parents all not covered in full by tuition. Oh and for a feis. Does your TC go? Do they travel to majors/ This is all coaching you aren’t paying for in the vast majority of schools. They deserve to be paid. If their income can be supplemented a bit by shows, then it saves you in the long run. And add to it that how much do you think a dancer should be paid for 30 minutes of dance in a group? Should a novice dancer get the same? How about OPW or OC? What about world champion versus, oireachtas placer? Should you rank the dancers based on the quality of their performance?
